This is a modernism populism elegy inspired by the suburbia-allegory film Gremlins.

An idealistic Internet-blogger and comic book fan named Ajay began making child-like stick-figure doodles of the Marvel Comics super-villain Hobgoblin (a jet-glider soaring and pumpkin-bomb throwing terrorist) and posting them next to Hobgoblin comic book panels/stills on Facebook. Ajay was suggesting that Hobgoblin represented new age pedestrian sensibilities regarding populism-oriented revelry of multiculturalism-conducive festivals/holidays, especially Halloween (or 'Samhain' as it was known from Gaelic cultures!). Ajay's Hobgoblin-art signified a modern media investment in pedestrianism-focused social rhetoric and how it pertained to urbanization and especially suburban sprawl. Ajay referred to his 'project' as Suburbicon.
Ajay's work dealt with all kinds or orange-colored media ornaments, such as the television broadcasts of the iconic Tennessee Volunteers college football team. The Vols boasted uniforms and field-colors of bright orange-and-white, which matched well with Ajay's Hobgoblin-art. Ajay touted the Vols as a modern Americana symbol of populism-politics revelry and multiculturalism 'education' fertilized on television. So many Americans tuned into Vols games on Saturdays and enjoyed the spectacle of televised collegiate student culture. This was real education! America was changing, and Ajay's expressions represented new age social rhetoric, which made him an 'armchair-warrior' rendition of Thomas Nast!
Suburban sprawl as a 'veil' for urbanization came with complications, of course. Every Halloween Eve, as American kids dressed up in colorful masks and costumes, camouflaging their ethnic backgrounds and sharing in the general revelry of masquerade, social pundits took note of the new 'shadowlands' of populism politics and population dynamics 'metaphysics.' Kids imagined being 'followed' on their trick-or-treat paths by a 'Samhain-oracle' which guided them towards some misty conceptualization of Americana mysticism. Ajay started wondering about the urbanization-omen message, "One day, men will look back and say that I gave birth to the 20th Century" by London serial-killer Jack the Ripper!
In this cultural-context, the commerce-focused Trump Administration was invested in using consumerism and capitalism-based treaties with South Korea, Europe, and South America to secure a global 'grip' on a 'modernized democracy' (i.e., European Union, NATO, Wall Street, World Bank). Samhain novelties sold on Halloween in America became 'ornaments' and 'charms' of general mercantilism and commerce-based culture-exposure. Televised broadcasts of the Mummers Parade in NYC on New Year's Day represented media inventiveness. Trump suggested on Larry King Live that Ajay was the new Thomas Nast, simply because populism was now...Reformation.
