We need Greenland and its minerals. We are going to get it one way or another. There is a strategic aspect too it also.

This is what should have been said:
We see a clear danger from Russia and China on an imminent invasion. We need to act swiftly to keep this area under NATO control. We urge all NATO members to assess their capacity in this matter.

How about we do this???

As much as I’d like to Russian aggression to end completely, I don’t fancy USA copying it.

But after seeing what soviet did to you guys, I get that you are willing to cut US some slack if it would ease the pressure from east.

Greenland is around a third the size of the continental USA, yet only has around 50,000 people living there. Twice as many people live in the US Virgin Islands.

Greenland only has a quasi-independence. If they don't take up with the USA, someone, maybe China or Russia will be knocking on their door.

They will get a far better deal with Trump.

Trump raised the issue of Greenland's inability to defend themselves. Greenland being a territory Denmark, neither China nor Russia is going to attack them because an attack on Greenland would demand a NATO response. Even if NATO was not involved the US would have to protect their base in Greenland.

Greenlanders are far more concerned about a military takeover from the US than they are China or Russia.

Greenland would DOUBLE our access to rare earths. Three of the other six sources richer than us are our enemies. Vietnam is right near China and Russia. Australia is way south far away. Brazil already sidea with China. All that leaves is India on the other side of the world.

Greenland offers more than rare earths in our backyard. They have a valuable strategic location.

So that's reason enough for the US to pull a Russian style takeover? From what Greenlanders are saying, they are not particular interests in the US developer of their land, which means open pit mining destroying a way of life that has existed for hundreds of years.
