There are always starry eyed pie in the sky adherents to almost any comically insane notion you can think of.

This one is really funny though..... Greenlanders who actually think they can just live on one corner of the globe and mind their business completely and be left alone to nurture their own particular identity. It's definitely a human quality and very understandable but it's also completely unrealistic.

The little micro nation of Greenland was born as a minnow in a. School of Wales.... There was never any question as to whether or not they would eventually fall under some other nation's control; the only question was when and who
the final identity of that Nation would be. If not the United States it most certainly will be either Russia or China.

Not really sure what it is they're trying to preserve.... They don't actually have a national heritage, just not big enough.

Even money says it's all propaganda funding from the same old reliable sources. There's actually a movement in Greenland that wants to proceed with the United States merger.... But they're not getting any coverage of course.

If there's a written treaty or agreement then that's a different story. But, as the entire world knows, treaties are meant to be broken which various American administrations have demonstrated over the decades.

There was an agreement between King George and the colonies when the colonies were underwhelming populated. Things changed.

Sure....that's a decent argument. The geopolitical situation here is a bit different though. Maybe a few similarities. George was trying to squeeze the colonies for money.
In this scenario Greenland's personal Wealth will skyrocket. There is no good reason whatsoever for them to act like their world is ending. Probably Chinese money on the island or in Denmark behind the negative propaganda frankly.

The truth is that all monarchies have been violating the rights of citizens and U.S media looks away. Canada is basically a primitive species, Stone age government abuses take place and some Americans slober to mimic the very type of system they wisely left behind.

Did your ancestors fight for independence simply to revert back to such a police state? I have to admit, I find it extremely creepy that Americans of all people want to be like Canadians or Brits (or Danes). Perhaps read the experiences of regular citizens, not what CNN tells you or what you see in a movie somewhere.

I personally believe there's a better solution than the current proposal. There are likely vast portions of Greenland that are completely uninhabited. America could buy or lease areas that are far from the inhabited sections of Greenland and set up military bases. America could satisfy her desire to fend off Russia or China while leaving Greenlanders' current lifestyle, standards, and system of governance undisturbed.

Sollte Trump sich Grönland aneignen zerstört er die transatlantische Verteidigungsallianz und macht euch zu einem Freund Russlands und zu einem Feind Europas. Sogar das jetzige Geschwafel seiner Speichellecker ist eigentlich schon viel zu blöd, irre und kriminell und kann vollkommen unberechenbare Folgen für die gesamte Weltpolitik haben - ganz uabhängig davon dass der gute Ruf der USA ohnehin bereit auf Jahrzehnte hinaus schwerst beschädigt ist.

If Trump were to annex Greenland, he would destroy the transatlantic defense alliance and turn you into a friend of Russia and an enemy of Europe. Nur um mal was klarzustellen: Man kann heutzutage kein Land mehr kaufen. Selbst wenn die USA ganz Grönland kaufen würde wäre Grönland immer noch eine politische Einheit und die USA lediglich dort Grundbesitzer. Theoretisch könnte Dänemark dann den privaten Grundbesitzer "USA" sogar danach einteignen.

Just to clarify: you can't buy a country these days. Even if the US were to buy the whole of Greenland, Greenland would still be a political entity and the US would merely be a landowner there. Theoretically, Denmark could then even expropriate the private landowner, the US.

By the way: In the case of Alaska, however, things were different: the Tsarist Empire wanted to get rid of Alaska and ceded it to the USA. In return, the USA gave the Tsarist Empire money. Incidentally, the current “Tsar” Putin wants Alaska back – along with most of the Canadian and US Pacific coast. His reasoning: wherever a Russian soldier once stood is forever Russia.
