If one takes a polar view of Greenland, it is obvious that it sits directly between the US and Russia's ICBMs. As such, it is in an essential location for early warning systems and ICBM defense. Unless it becomes part of the US, there is no way to enforce territorial sovereignty over the waters surrounding it. Without this, US adversaries can place naval and air forces much closer to Greenland, allowing them to perform a quicker strike against US defenses.

Why is this so hard to understand?

We have bases in Greenland and a naval presence. Neither would be changed by aggression against Greenland/Denmark

Yes indeed. In place we have the North Atlantic Treated that resulted in Denmark's refusal of Truman's offer to purchase Greenland. Back then our president responded as an adult.

Your TDS is acting up. How is Trump not acting as an adult? You heard him say we wouldn't take it by force.

I understand it perfectly. I also understand what Denmark would do if Russia or China decided to build a base there. Others would throw away all logic just to hate Trump.

You act like we would allow Russia or China to build a base there. We would not.

We do not need to own the place to do that stupid

What part of The People of Greenland DO NOT WANT TO BE PART OF THE UNITED STATES DO YOU FAIL TO COMPREHEND?

This is the same reason China wants territorial sovereignty over Taiwan. This would allow it to restrict access to the Taiwan Strait.

First, we've already got a space base there, with early warning systems. Not sure about ICBM defense, but I'm quite sure the Russians know what's going to happen when they fire off an ICBM at us. I don't think annexing Greenland would have any increase in our national defense, what this is really about is the oil and gas reserves plus minerals and rare earth metals that current mining technologies can't get to because it's under at least a mile of ice. My take is that Trump wants to make sure our adversaries don't gain access to those assets, which I'm sure recent agreement is going to ensure. And I am quite sure that Trump has told Russia and China that their presence in the area is going to be met with the appropriate amount of force and military action as needed. I do not see anybody making a quick strike on the US, nobody wants a war with us.

Trump and many in his administration are the only men standing between the dwindling adherence to Judeo-Christian values of the West and the pervasive Atheism of China and their compromised Western leaders.

Greenland must be a location in control and leveraged by America for security, economic and their orbit of influence.

The world cannot pretend that Greenland as a weak point for North American defense was being addressed properly.

It was a dangerous downhill spiral to allow a weak, old dying monarchy in Denmark to control this piece of ice that was just sitting there. 56,000 Easy targets while the rest of North America would immediately be too if invaded.

Also, build the mineral resources, get people integrated with a closer economy not some horse and buggy economy. Expand energy sources, set up missile defense etc.

This is more than strategic, this is has tactical repercussions when in the good guys hands.

Trump gets it.
He's light years beyond most of the dull politicians in this country, multimillionaire country clubbers with legacy money who don't have a clue what the world is about because they vacation in all the right places in Europe but don't understand the underpinnings, the stress and strain under the elitists surface.
Trump, always being an outsider, albeit a successful one, gets it.
I don't always agree with him and sometimes his style grates on me BIG time.
But this strategic move is, IMHO, brilliant. He's playing chess while the others play marbles.

President Truump literally "gets" everything light years ahead of the pack.
