Greek Gods vs. Bible Characters

The religion/mythology of Ancient Greece provided us with very muscular and sensuous gods such as Zeus (the 'king' god), Aphrodite (goddess of love/beauty), and Medusa (demon-goddess of hypnosis).

The Christian Bible provides us with very human-sentimental and pedestrian-accessible ethics-valuated characters such as Jehovah (God's name), Joseph ('king of dreams'), David (the 'warrior'), Moses (the shepherd), Michael (God's 'archangel'), and the mysterious and dangerous Harlot of Babylon.

While it is tempting to create straightforward comparisons such as 'Zeus vs. Jehovah' and 'Harlot vs. Medusa,' what is more interesting is to examine why such potential parallels can arise from two very disparate mythology systems.

The Greeks were devoted to rational mathematics (and number theory), political origination philosophies, and governance hypotheses, while Christianity developed as a method for embracing resilience in times of complicated spiritual changes (e.g., the fall of Rome).

So both Greeks and Christians were invested in 'evaluating' the human reaction to real-world complexities and mental experiences.

The recent American film Osmosis Jones explores the experience of sentient beings diving into the world of the 'inner-man' (literally!), the biochemical world of the human body. This film symbolizes a timeless human curiosity about the 'spiritual mechanics' of existence itself and the strangely 'tangible' quality of mortality.

A comparison of Greek gods and Bible characters can help us deepen our appreciation of mankind's innate fascination with 'the inner-world' or the world of the mind (spirit, ethics, rage, etc.), and how this fascination translates into political realities (e.g., multi-culturalism, democracy, crime, etc.).

It would be therefore insightful to investigate why such a scholarly investigation could yield valuable perspectives and not be construed as 'heretical dissection'.

ZEUS: Man has polluted Earth's oceans.
JEHOVAH: Man must be 'cleansed.'
ZEUS: The gods must help man clean up the waters.
JEHOVAH: Mankind needs a shock (e.g., a great flood).
ZEUS: We might enlist the help of Poseidon.
JEHOVAH: We could enlist the aid of Michael.
ZEUS: The solution lies in the mind.
JEHOVAH: The arena however resides in the heart.
ZEUS: If man is not rational, he will become simply flesh.
JEHOVAH: The spirit controls the flesh, or the body dies.
ZEUS: Perhaps mankind needs a 'network.'
JEHOVAH: This 'network' may be corrupted by the AntiChrist.
