Glen Campbell is among the top 10 too:
I agree. And Campbell was a session player in high demand before he hit the big time. A musician's musician.

You have zero knowledge of guitar if you think that. You just liked some Clapton songs and you heard people claim he was awesome for decades. That isnt proof of his ability. Every generation is better than the last. This goes for all sports, and musical instruments, dancers, actors, etc. Every generation is better than the last because, they learn from the previous generation and then improve on it.
Here is a great example for you, if you care to actually engage. Here is Jimmy Hendrix playing Voodoo Chile...
Now listen to the kid that Hendrix inspired to become even better at it...
The difference between those two performances is STAGGERING. SRV doesnt fuck up a single note, his string bends are WAAAAAYYYY the fuck more accurate and he just generally plays cleaner all around. His technique is flawless and not only that, he is improvising the entire performance. He has never played any song the same way twice. He always improvises on the spot.
Then you can delete every name on your list and fill it with classical guitar players you have probably never heard of.
Here is a few minutes of stuff Nuno Betancourt could not do on his best day:
Gawd. No, he is one of the exceptions that wasnt a nerd, had charisma and was "able to perform on stage like a rock star". Hong Choi from China with his bowl haircut and no personality never made it to the stage at Woodstock because, he was a fucking nerd, but he was a better guitar player (even though im making up Hong Choi). The point is, there are probably 99 music nerd guitar players for every 1 rockstar with charisma, so the odds of the 1% guy with charisma being the best is slim as fuck. He is probably very far down the list.
I love the dirty old Fleetwood Mac.And Peter Green is never mentioned either
Yeah, before Green went bonkers he was an amazing blues guitar playerI love the dirty old Fleetwood Mac.

Hendrix was a very sloppy player. You would not qualify for Berkley master classes today if you played just like Hendrix. SRV plays Hendrix better than Hendrix.Hendrix smokes SRV, the two styles are very different. Hendrix was all about amplifiers at full blast creating feedback he would ride to the edge of the moon, literally.
Then of course, Little Wing was written by Hendrix, so the best solo SRV managed was imagined by, written by, Hendrix.
Who would Hendrix say is the best, Terry Kath
I can agree to that.
Greatest guitarists of all time...
- Jiminy Hendrix
- Eric Clapton
- Jeff Beck
- Jimmy Page
- Eddie Van Halan
- Stevie Ray Vaughn
- Alvin Lee
- Carlos Santana
- Lee Ritinour
- Jeff Healey
Who cares about Berklee, it is Berklee and not Berkley, right?Hendrix was a very sloppy player. You would not qualify for Berkley master classes today if you played just like Hendrix. SRV plays Hendrix better than Hendrix.
Which of Hendrix's solos are kids playing today? About as many as those playing SRV.Which SRV solo's are all the kids attempting to recreate, today?
Damn you making me agree with youI can line up 50 youtube videos of bedroom warriors duplicating any Petrucci solo.
You will find 0 youtube videos of anyone successfuly duplicating a Hendrix song.
I knew there was a spark of genius somewhere in thereDamn you making me agree with you
Oh, we are debating skill level? I thought the OP was greatest guitar solo.Which of Hendrix's solos are kids playing today? About as many as those playing SRV.
Its an irrelevent point though, right? We are debating skill level, not influence. SRV is widely considered the greatest blues guitar player of all time, despite the fact that Hendrix is ASLO a blues player. Its because Hendrix plays sloppy. His technique isnt honed.
It was, but as you know, these threads evolve. You jumped into a side debate about skill level.Oh, we are debating skill level? I thought the OP was greatest guitar solo.
Voodoo Child is blues? All along the watch tower? Blues?

I would add Glenn Campbell to that list. Most people don't know what a great guitar player he was.
