No, he did it because they were totally inadequate to the task. For instance, the USS Comfort wasn't even allowed to TAKE Covid Patients initially. Which means you had to get someone who had his patient in the hospital for gall bladder surgery or chemotherapy, agree to give up his bed to go to the leaky boat. Yeah. That's pretty much a malpractice suit looking for a place to happen.
Malpractice for what, being treated at a different facility? Nobody can sue for that provided they are getting adequate care. You don't need critical care if you're recovering from a gallbladder surgery or had some stints put into your heart arteries.
The Javits center had no restrictions on Covid patients. Cuomo placed a death penalty on nursing home people. Do you think people are as selfish as you are and would not move to a temporary facility knowing the dire straits our country was in? You don't give Americans much credit, do you?

It wasn't set up for Covid cases, and non-covid patients didn't want to go there, either.
But much to the frustration of healthcare workers, since that announcement, Javits has taken in nowhere near its capacity. As of April 7, the convention center had admitted only 66 patients. This was due in large part to the strict admission requirements. At first, a patient could only be transferred to Javits if they were convalescing, or in the recovery period. The fear was that Javits didn't have the ICU beds, operating rooms, or equipment necessary to handle patients who might relapse or need surgery because of an underlying condition.
One nurse in an East Harlem hospital anonymously told the New York Post that there was a 25-point checklist to transfer a patient into Javits. Out of 95 patients they requested for transfer, only one met the standards.
It's funny that you guys keep complaining about nursing homes, which were FAR better equipped to handle elderly patients than some tent thrown up with army people who have no experience in geriatrics, but you think Trump recommending fish tank cleaner and bleach was sound medical advice.

It was much more equipt to treat Covid patients than any nursing home. Have you ever been inside a nursing home? I've been in dozens of them many, many times. Two of my tenants work in nursing homes. They have zero training for anything. You're trying to tell me that professionally trained medical staff has less ability to take care of patients than people with zero training at all. Do you know how ridiculous that sounds?
Our military trains field paramedics, nurses, registered nurses, doctors, which my former neighbor I grew up next to became. They have the ability to handle just about anything. No, these facilities were not setup for triage or surgery. They were setup however to take care of the general overflow of patients not in need of urgent care.

Guy, I was in the army for 11 years. Most medics would have no idea how to treat anything other than typical operational injuries. You see, here's why the military medical system works reasonably well. Everyone in the military has already been screened medically and they are in prime health. They engage in regular mandatory exercise on a daily basis, and they can't exceed certain weights.
Put them out in a cold drafty tent with a bunch of sick old people, they'd be completely lost.

So who's talking about tents when there were hundreds of beds in the closed facilities? You know nothing about military medics. I've worked with paramedics that had to train military medics to get their certification in the states. They told me not only were they very knowledgeable, but actually knew more, especially those that served in war. Our paramedics are limited in what they can perform. In war, military medics have to do much more to save lives.

Well, first, it wasn't anywhere near 200K, and second, there's no such thing as the "common flu". We had one bad outbreak of H1N1 in 2009, where 12,000 people died, mostly because the idiots wouldn't take the vaccines available.
