The Bay Area is bleeding population. The Census doesn't lie.

San Francisco is expected to lose a state Senate seat and see its clout in Sacramento diminish when legislative districts are redrawn based on the 2010 census count.

Due to anemic population growth in not only the city but throughout the Bay Area, the region is expected to see dramatic changes in the boundaries in its state Senate and Assembly districts as well as congressional districts under next year's redistricting process.

While final numbers won't be known until early 2011, when the U.S. Census Bureau will release population data based by state and county, it is widely expected that the Bay Area will be short a significant number of people compared to other regions in California, which have experienced population booms since the last census count in 2000.

The result is that San Francisco will likely lose one of two state Senate seats and see its portion of one of its two Assembly Districts drastically reduced.

"It is more than a possibility. I would be shocked if it didn't happen," said Paul Mitchell, a Democratic consultant based in Sacramento who has been advising local lawmakers about next year's redistricting process. "San Francisco will have only one Senate seat."

We all remember when The Arnold rode into Sacramento in his white hummer to return truth, justice and the conservative way to California. Promising to fix the mess with his red pen by his after lunch cigar, the governator was crowned the messiah and even mentioned as presidential material, but for that damn Constitution.
Alas, The Arnold was smacked in the face by the reality of governance and failed to deliver. He even violated the trust of true and loyal conservatives, the guy seemed to care about people. Probably the Kennedy influence, but to the callous conservatives he committed the unforgiveable sin, he sought compromise.
Gov. Brown has offered cuts - notwithstanding the lies by callous conservatives above -across the board. Now is the time for the Republicans to demonstrate they too can compromise, and earn their pay by representing all of the people, not only the callous conservatives.

well i have said this before...Arnold was the greatest Governor this State has ever had while he was Campaigning....6 months in....a joke.....hopefully Brown will be the bulldog he seems to be .....and i do hope HE sets the Legislature straight not them setting him straight like they did Arnie....we will see...time will tell.....i dont agree with some of his trimming....BUT i am behind him at this point in time.....Tomorrow ?.....well its up to Jerry....its his game to lose or win.....

Before you thank me for my post, perhaps you should know that I think Kalifornia should go bankrupt. A court tossing out union contracts would be a great precedent in future negotiations with greedy municipal, state and federal workers.

hey Ernie....i suppose if you got a Govt job and the Union negotiated you some nice pay with decent benefits.....you would turn it down right?..... and tell them you want less....am i right?......calling the workers GREEDY is kinda stupid.........whatever you do for a living and whatever you make,i guess i can say your "greedy" also.....but i know your not....dont blame the poor slobs looking to feed their families as being "greedy".....10-20 years ago nobody batted an eyelash over these "outrageous" benefits and pay....the people who have been working under these contracts were doing so in good faith....they were not "greedy"....

Asking people to fork huge sums of their income in property taxes, sales taxes and income taxes to keep this ruse alive is not gonna fly. And 10 -20 years ago nobody realized they were pegging pension payments to unrealizable market gains.
