Gov. Christy Giving Boehner & House Majority Hell

"The pork-barrel feast includes more than $8 million to buy cars and equipment for the Homeland Security and Justice departments. It also includes a whopping $150 million for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to dole out to fisheries in Alaska and $2 million for the Smithsonian Institution to repair museum roofs in DC.

An eye-popping $13 billion would go to “mitigation” projects to prepare for future storms.

Other big-ticket items in the bill include $207 million for the VA Manhattan Medical Center; $41 million to fix up eight military bases along the storm’s path, including Guantanamo Bay, Cuba; $4 million for repairs at Kennedy Space Center in Florida; $3.3 million for the Plum Island Animal Disease Center and $1.1 million to repair national cemeteries.

Budget watchdogs have dubbed the 94-page emergency-spending bill “Sandy Scam.”

More:

$58.8 million for forest restoration on private land.
$197 million “to… protect coastal ecosystems and habitat impacted by Hurricane Sandy.”
$10.78 billion for public transportation, most of which is allocated to future construction and improvements, not disaster relief.
$17 billion for wasteful Community Development Block Grants (CDBG), a program that has become notorious for its use as a backdoor earmark program."

The Pork Filled and Expensive Non-Relief Sandy Relief Bill - Katie Pavlich

The Bill should die a horrible death

At least you came up with some answers - they're wrong answers because none of those items are in the House Bill - but at least you tried.

Maybe if Christie was teaching his citizens how to be self-reliant, he wouldn't need help from others. Just saying.

So..we should be doing that nation wide, eh?

Lets just see how the folks in places like Florida, Oklahoma, Kentucky and so many other red states do after their next natural disasters.

wth? places like that have all done FINE in disasters..you people act like nobody can get by without the FEDERAL GUBERMENT

Dems in the Senate intentiionally put "Poison Pills" in the bill knowing the GOP would catch hell from RINoPs like Christie in the press.

It's all a game to them.

Harry Reid can go fuck himself. So can Christie.

Are you all being deliberately obtuse by ignoring the outright pork in this bill?

Yes they are still there. The House made two separate bills.
One for the Hurricane relief and the other one for the pork barrel goodies.

Dems are doing business as usual, this is what they have always done. Added pork deals to get the votes.
All of the Dems in the Senate refuse to wake up and realize that they can't keep spending like they have always done.

One for the Hurricane relief and the other one for the pork barrel goodies.

Two sepearte bills (one for FEMA flood assistance - $9 billion) and the other bill for the remainder of aid ($51 billion). Neither include the items you listed which amounted to $400 million. However,. since Maryland is one of the areas hit, I'm not so sure Smithsonian roofing wasn't damaged in the storm and therefore a legitimate item of Sandy relief.

At any rate - Boehner didn't site "pork" as the reason for pulling the bill off the House calendar and has in fact pulled a mea culpa for his brain-dead move by swearing to vote on the FEMA portion on Friday and the remainder on Jan. 15.

This brain-dead move of yanking it off the House calendar at the very last minute Tuesday night is a sign that he is cracking under the strain. I don't think he's up to the challenge anymore.

On September 11, 2001, George Bush was given a blank check to get the mother fuckers who attacked us. He had unprecedented support both at home and abroad

He took that support and used it to trump up reasons to attack Iraq. In doing so, he abandoned his war on terror for an ill-advised attack which he blundered
once again RW.......I WAS NOT TALKING ABOUT FUCKING IRAQ......dont go past the first 2 days in Afghanistan.....ok?....

now what you said right here........

now was going into Afghanistan to get the motherfuckers who attacked us Illegal or not?.....Jones said it was.....take it from my last post.....

I've already said I didn't see anything illegal (Post 181)

I refuse to separate the two wars. They are joined at the hip. Both were done under the broad "war on terror".
As a single act, the War in Afghanistan may have been justified. However, once Bush put Afghanistan on the back burner for a foolhardy invasion of Iraq he. THE DECIDER, linked the two events

Can you separate the War in the Pacific from the War in Europe during WWII?

RW....forget it.....you cant apparently cant just focus on Afghanistan......have a nice and safe New Year....

Christy and Ray Nagin, two peas in a pod

It's not MY fault and where is the money

Hurricanes are peoples fault?

well Nagin failed.....he was told to get those people out of there and well we know his story.....but Christy as far as we heard out here a storm was coming and i dont know if everyone was told to evacuate, maybe in certain areas....but you tell me ....you live there....did Christy and the other Governors and Mayors act appropriately?...

are you talking about Obama?.....

You have no way of knowing this but President Obama does not agree that we should renege on our debts. He does not agree with the pubpots that we should just yell "Charge it" and then refuse to pay for the bills they already passed.

Not surprising that you're another rw who doesn't know what the debt ceiling is.

No one agrees that we should renege on our debts. What we need to renege on is creating more debt, and that means we need seruous spending cuts. To insist that we engage in making those cuts as a response to a need to again raise the debt ceiling is just common sense.

Two different things.
Why don't rw's KNOW that???

are people not?......here in Cali....we are told if a sizable Quake hits.... for the first 2-3 days it may be just us and the local first responders......3-4 days later the State should be there....dont expect the Feds for maybe 5 days after..... they can all get there earlier but dont expect it....

Post who did it and what the "poison pills" are.

Try 67 days (and counting) for New Jersey, New York, etc ... on this one.

So we're mad at Chris Christie because he treated a black guy who also happened to be the President of the United States like a human being? That explains a lot because a lot of the logic in this thread being used by bitter conservatives is absolutely non-sensical.

You know its bad when doing your job, working for the people who elected you and being willing to work with someone from another party (and, amazingly, another race!), when that gets hatred and criticism and called "jumping the shark" -- gives you an idea of just how dysfunctional we've become.

Its also why the R refused to debate a bill to help the victims. When President Obama said he wanted help for them, that was a end of it. You could almost hear the R digging in their heels and saying, "Oh yeah ...?"

then you all could really crow about him..good grief

Christie, in no uncertain terms, told everyone near the shore to get the hell out. This one is going to be bad

The a-hole Mayor of Atlantic City told people they could use their own judgement on whether to leave or not

I'm not sure WHY Boehner pulled the bill off the House calendar at the last minute Tuesday night. Everyone "knew" it was going to happen right after the fiscal cliff vote.

Maybe he just can't take the pressure of it all, maybe he was sending a signal to Christie for appearing on TV with Obama right before the election, or maybe (and I believe this is the strongest possibility) he just couldn't face bickering with the wingnuts in his own party again over routine stuff.
