A Bear farts in the woods, must be Global Warming. Gore has become such a joke that anything bad that happens he blames on Global Warming! Record snow and cold (in which he predicted by this time our children wouldn't know what snow was) is because of Global Warming, :cuckoo:, did Gore get into his son's stash? WTF

If the planet is warming, why is a third of America locked in a deep freeze, with record-low temperatures as far south as the Mexican border, where the thermometer in Ciudad Juarez plummeted Wednesday night to a bone-chilling 9-below zero?

Self-proclaimed planetary climate czar Al Gore thinks he has answer.

Great General Answer (actually its not, it blows), but where's the beef!
FoxNews.com - Al Gore Explains 'Snowmageddon'
"As it turns out, the scientific community has been addressing this particular question for some time now, and they say increased heavy snowfalls are completely consistent with what they have been predicting as a consequence of man-made global warming," Gore write in a blog post.

Gore also indicated that he believes a rise in global temperatures is creating “all sorts of havoc,” from hotter dry spells to colder winters and ever more violent storms. This is even endangering certain species of animals and leading to forest fires and floods.

Finally real scientist offer voices of reason!
But not surprisingly, some climate-change skeptics are a bit hot under the collar over Gore’s “scientific” explanation.

“Gore’s statement actually indicates a deeper problem -- lack of precise predictions,” said Dr. William M. Briggs, a statistician and climate scientist. His research shows that there are no increased weather problems because of global warming, Briggs told FoxNews.com.

“He’s saying that anything bad that happens must be because global warming caused it. Activists like Gore are great at identifying events after the fact as being caused by global warming, but terrible at predicting them beforehand,” Briggs said.

Meteorologist Art Horn agreed, noting the extensive history of devastating weather over the millennia -- none of which he connects with global warming.
“If one actually studies the history of weather over the last 2,000 years, you see massive storms, amazing heat, brutal cold waves, devastating droughts, terrible floods and disastrous hurricanes -- none caused by global warming,” he told FoxNews.com.

“Gore has no appreciation for large natural variability in weather,” Horn said.

Gore is only a joke to one political party in the entire world. The most ignorant political party in the entire world. They laugh at Gore, the entire world laughs at them. So it evens out.

Art Horn has his head up his ass. Just because something had one cause in the past doesn't mean it couldn't have another now. Answer this, "what happens, if GHGs keep going up?" Where's that extra trapped energy going to go? Statistically 50% will be re-emitted into space, but logically the other half will be emitted towards earth, warming it.

Severe weather patterns are evidence that the damage we are doing to earth is causing these storms, which are natures way of trying to equalize itself. environmental damage should be taken very seriously. The same people who do not believe in global warming, also think the earth formed 6,000 years ago. Despite physical evidence that this is preposterous. overwhelmingly so.

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Actually they are the ones saying that global warming is part of the earths cycles, and has been since the formation of the earth. A very long long long long time ago.

I don't believe in global warming, yet I recycle, believe strongly in the Clean Water and Clean Air Act, I pray for the success of the electric cars that are starting to hit the markers, I believe he earth is millions of years old and I very skeptical that their is a higher power. So take your arrogant statements and shove them!

I spoke to my conservative Uncle, he told me back in the 1970s the environmentalist where stating that an ice age was underway and caused by man's destruction to the Earth! How quickly things change for the environazis!

From the same article in the OP!
He points to a New York Times story from the 1970s, which said the planet was getting so cold that humanity was in danger of starving to death. The article argued that the world’s weather would soon be so frigid that it could no longer permit the cultivation of crops for food. The Times’ headline on August 8, 1974, was simple enough: “Climate changes Endanger World’s Food Output.”

No, actually scientists have been saying for decades that global warming would lead to more storms, including storms that happen when the temp is below 32... Yes this means snow.

Pretty much everything they've been saying will happen, is happening...

Rdean, you are always thunder with no lighting! Facts are India, Brazil, Russia, China, the infamous BRIC nations laugh off Gore's unproven assertions. Now it appears the west is doing the same thing.

That the UK, from the same article in the OP:
Skepticism is very clearly increasing overseas; a poll released this week by the Office for National Statistics in the U.K. indicated that the number of climate skeptics there had nearly doubled during the last four years. The proportion of people who said they were “not very concerned” about global warming now numbers more than one in five, the U.K. government said.

Deal with it. It happens

Yes, very clever.

When every warm, cold, and hot is a few degrees warmer, the planet responds to that - Most scientists say the response will be a negative for our species.

And it doesn't have to be something you notice, especially not over a period of decades. The "Ice age" was only a GMT of -10 from where it is now.

You know Syrenn, over the last 3 years the seasons went from Winter, Spring, Summer to Fall and then back to winter. OMG, global warming must have caused this!

The earth doesn't care about any of us. It will do what the earth does. It has done this before many times and it will do it again.

Arctic Sea Ice News & Analysis

Overview of conditions

Arctic sea ice extent averaged over January 2011 was 13.55 million square kilometers (5.23 million square miles). This was the lowest January ice extent recorded since satellite records began in 1979. It was 50,000 square kilometers (19,300 square miles) below the record low of 13.60 million square kilometers (5.25 million square miles), set in 2006, and 1.27 million square kilometers (490,000 square miles) below the 1979 to 2000 average.

Ice extent in January 2011 remained unusually low in Hudson Bay, Hudson Strait (between southern Baffin Island and Labrador), and Davis Strait (between Baffin Island and Greenland). Normally, these areas freeze over by late November, but this year Hudson Bay did not completely freeze over until mid-January. The Labrador Sea remains largely ice-free

Potential links with mid-latitude weather

While the Arctic has been warm, cold and stormy weather has affected much of the Northeast U.S. and Europe. Last winter also paired an anomalously warm Arctic with cold and snowy weather for the eastern U.S. and northern Europe. Is there a connection?

Warm conditions in the Arctic and cold conditions in northern Europe and the U.S. are linked to the strong negative mode of the Arctic oscillation. Cold air is denser than warmer air, so it sits closer to the surface. Around the North Pole, this dense cold air causes a circular wind pattern called the polar vortex , which helps keep cold air trapped near the poles. When sea ice has not formed during autumn and winter, heat from the ocean escapes and warms the atmosphere. This may weaken the polar vortex and allow air to spill out of the Arctic and into mid-latitude regions in some years, bringing potentially cold winter weather to lower latitudes.

Some scientists have speculated that more frequent episodes of a negative Arctic Oscillation, and the stormy winters that result, are linked to the loss of sea ice in the Arctic. Dr. James Overland of NOAA Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory (PMEL) recently noted a link between low sea ice and a weak polar vortex in 2005, 2008, and the past two winters, all years with very low September sea ice extent. Earlier work by Jennifer Francis of Rutgers University and colleagues also suggested a relationship between autumn sea ice levels and mid-latitude winter conditions. Judah Cohen, at Atmospheric and Environmental Research, Inc., and his colleagues propose another idea—a potential relationship between early snowfall in northern Siberia, a negative phase of the Arctic Oscillation, and more extreme winters elsewhere in the Northern Hemisphere. More research on these ideas may shed light on the connections and have the potential to improve seasonal weather forecasting.
