In a Republic, actually
‘Anxiety is rising among congressional Republicans that their party has no plan to address a critical health care deadline this fall that will result in spiking costs for millions of Americans – the issue at the heart of the deepening government shutdown crisis.

And some of those GOP members are offering a stark warning to their own leaders: Doing nothing could cost them their full control of Congress in next November’s midterms, calling for a plan that would address expiring enhanced Obamacare tax credits to be swiftly advanced once the government eventually reopens.

“I think the reality is, if costs go up under our control, it could have an impact on us,” Rep. David Valadao, a vulnerable GOP lawmaker from California, told CNN about the political effects of the health care fight. “I get that there’s some in leadership who don’t like hearing it but there’s no denying it.” “Just watching rates go up and pointing fingers is not what we should be doing in our position,” he said.

Valadao is among dozens of rank-and-file House and Senate members who have begun drafting their own ideas about how to deal with the expiring enhanced Affordable Care Act subsidies, which help millions of Americans afford insurance. Many of those GOP members — predominantly from battleground seats — are also directly urging their leadership and the White House to do something to make sure the tax credits keep flowing at year’s end.’

True Republican idiocy.

They wouldn’t need to come up with a plan if they’d simply agree to reauthorize Affordable Care Act subsidies, might even help them keep the House.

Republicans are incapable of sound, responsible governance.

Schumer's shutdown will come to an end in five days when his constituency quits getting their meal ticket. If it should go another 20 days after that, you'll lose your ACA and have to pay full price for your health insurance like everyone else.

Nice try, this is on Johnson, and his constant LIES......a very trump thing.
Proven as factual.

(R) own the House, the Senate, and the POTUS.
It is up to them to negotiate....... am I wrong?
Not the Art of the Deal......FAIL on the (R), but sure, keep blaming (D).

If the affordable care act is affordable, why does it need to be subsidized?

Gov't is shut down. No negotiations until its up and running. Schumer's shut down is going to hurt his constituency and if it goes until Nov. 21, you can goodbye to the ACA. Tsk, tsk, tsk, maybe he and Jefferies will throw another temper tantrum.

Most people do not pay full price for their health insurance because they only pay a portion of the premium due to it being "group coverage" which allows employers to obtain it at a substantially lower rate than individuals could.

For the 6–7% who buy their own, the ACA subsidies that the Democrats are fighting to protect, are the only thing preventing premiums from doubling. Letting those expire would hit middle-class families the hardest.

(based on Kaiser Family Foundation 2023 data):
  • Employer-Sponsored Insurance (ESI): About 49–50% of Americans get coverage this way.
    • Employers usually pay a large share of the premium.
    • On average, employees contribute only about 17% of the premium for single coverage and 28% for family coverage.
    • So they are shielded from the true “full price” of insurance.
  • Public programs: ~35% are covered by Medicare, Medicaid, or military/veterans’ health programs.
  • Individual / ACA marketplace: ~6–7% buy their own plans directly. Here’s where subsidies (like ACA tax credits) make a big difference. Without subsidies, premiums can be very expensive.
  • Uninsured: ~8%.

No, I see it differently.

The continuing resolution as presented is no different than any of the last 2 or 3. The only difference is that the D's want to add new riders to enhance the Socialist agenda. Spend more money to fatten the pork even more. They are throwing a tantrum.

Gridlock prevails. And at a time when WW III is on the horizon?

Who can accept continued borrowing against our future? The National Debt Clock is at $38 Trillion and climbing fast.

Apparently you don't look at benefits as part of your pay package. Unfortunate because it is YOUR money that is paid to the insurance company. That is not free, so whatever you think you've been paying, you better add that so-called employer contribution which is just another word for YOUR money and they get a tax break for paying it for you.

If ACA is so good--it doesn't need more of my money to subsidize your insurance.
So they are shielded from the true “full price” of insurance.
This ^^^ is false. That money is part of your pay package.

Fully aware. I pay insurance premiums too. I don't want to subsidize someone else's.

Excuse me. I am required to pay full price, or else I am required to sell my homestead to make up the difference.

The main reason, as far as I can find, is because I am not in a politically correct group.

You will find your Equity waiting for you at the end of my shotgun. Go ahead and take a close look.

If you don't like the cost of health care insurance, DUMP IT! Don't pay them a ******* dime. It's a lot cheaper. I hope millions of Americans dump their insurance en masse. That would send them a much stronger message than that Luigi moron did.

The 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act eliminated the individual mandate extremist authoritarian Democratic party of slavery put into place. Trump dropped the fine to $0.

Of course if you live in certain blue states, they will snatch away your money anyways. They put their jackboots your necks an created their own fines after Republicans saved you from the Democratic party of slavery's oppressive mandates and penalties on the working class.

Actually no, the GOP had nothing to do with how Obamacare was written

Democrats made sure of that, but now that you have to follow the law, you hate it.

Why?

Those subsidies are and always have been unconstitutional and immoral. They never should have existed in the first place. Nor should the ACA itself.

Boom!

The bogus covid subsidy was just a form of what the vile dems have wanted all along, socializing the cost of insurance.

While other folks/employers have to pay full boat for their coverage they are now also expected to foot the bill for the ACA subsidies too.

Small wonder "healthcare" costs have went through the roof.....Just like college tuition.

Healthcare should be free.
Like all the countries Trump and his cult support, like Israel and Venezuela.

The premiums will be exactly what the would be under that gem the ACA. The subsidies were during covid and that is over
