And since Blacks have traditionally been denied advancement in typical white-collar jobs (which constitutes the usual route of migration from poor to the middle class and beyond) they tend to live in poorer neighborhoods.

Not long ago that would have remained true even after his conduct in a Carmel, California restaurant.
