Range anxiety is one of the leading reasons consumers cite for avoiding electric vehicles, and a big purchase reason for customers of the Silverado EV, which advertises a range of 400-plus miles over its various trims.

To address that concern and to amuse its engineers, General Motors put its electric truck to the test last week and smashed a distance record in the process.

Under meticulous parameters ‒ including restricting the use of air conditioning in the July heat ‒ the 2026 Chevrolet Silverado EV Work Truck set a new world record for electric vehicle range, traveling 1,059.2 miles on a single charge, more than double the truck's EPA-estimated range of 493 miles.

This could be a game changer for EV reliability. To think, if you could go over 1,000 miles on one charge! Good old US innovation comes through again. Sadly, the US is investing billions in coal and opening up national parks for exploration, while China and the rest of the world march on with such advancements in technology.

Is it not a good idea to be self sufficient in critical chemistry and ores? If a war breaks out and they suddenly aren't available......well yah chose pooorrrly.

I hope it's true. Range is Part A of the solution; Part B is time required to charge. If you can add 350 miles of range in 10 minutes, it's a whole new ballgame. That's what it takes me to pee and get myself a cup of coffee.

Of course, I already drive a Tesla M3LR-AWD with a range of about 300 miles (half hour to recharge at a Supercharger).

How do you like your Tesla?

I'm looking at a Model 3 Performance AWD. I like the idea of a 2.9 second 0-60.

I drove a Model X Plaid and the acceleration and speed was mind-blowing.

They had to use a pickup frame to get that.

And also note this:

Under meticulous parameters ‒ including restricting the use of air conditioning in the July heat

This isn't new tech or anything, it's the same tech but using a frame that can hold a bigger battery, and having the people sweat the whole time they drove.

Why do you guys have to bullshit to try to make your points every single ******* time?

Whats the range of a truck pulling a trailer/5th wheel or a boat?
My view on this is if you want an EV, go for it, no problem.
How about in a sub zero region during winter?
I'll stick to the fossil fuel vehicles. Tried and true
A nice option would be the hybrid vehicles. Good gas mileage

Magats hate this good news. If only they could buy a coal powered car?

What "good news"?

They had to use the largest frame possible and restrict ancillary use like AC to get it.

Look at all the conditions they had to apply:

First, the vehicle was optimized, but only in a way that customers could replicate at home, according to GM spokeswoman Catherine Scales.

According to the company, those optimizations included:

◾Maintaining an average speed of 20-25 mph when safe to do so and avoiding hard braking or quick acceleration.

◾Conducting most of the tests with the driver alone in the vehicle.

◾The windshield wiper blades were set to the “lowest acceptable” position to reduce drag.

◾The Silverado’s tires were inflated to their highest acceptable pressure for lower rolling resistance, except for the spare, which was removed to lighten the load.

◾The wheel alignment “was optimized.”

◾An accessory tonneau cover was added to streamline airflow around the truck bed.

◾Climate control was off.

Another factor that helped the vehicle’s battery life was performing the test in summer, which GM said provided the “optimum ambient temperature for battery efficiency.”

How far do they go in a power failure.

Oil is a finite resource. EV is the future. Denying the future does change that future. No matter what MAGA wants, EV's, are a fact of life. What is it about the future that scares MAGA MAGGOTS so much.

Only for those who can afford a $70+k vehicle. I'll stick with my much more affordable but completely functional and roadworthy regular gasoline powered Subaru that gets us where we need to go and is quickly and easily fueled at easy to find gas stations everywhere.

Nuclear is the future. EV needs subsidies and mandates because no one really wants them. Take away the tax breaks and subsidies then see how many sell. There will always be some idiot who thinks hes saving humanity who never considers the pollution created by making batteries. Fine then pay for it. Dont ask me fir ride in a power failure.

1000 miles for a heavy truck sounds a bit too good to be true

must have a massive battery

pulling maybe 200, pulling when it's cold, probably 100

Batteries only degrade over time, over usage, over repetitive charges. This "mileage" can never be repeated. Correct?

Just felt like tossing sand in the vaseline. But seriously, It is good news if a big truck (hauling nothing) has a lot of range. More than I have ever heard of.

To install these battery in city garbage trucks (stop and go) seems like a good idea. Maybe it takes 2X or 4X battery due to weight?

And WHY should we, the American taxpayer, subsidize this EV stuff?

If the EV Silverado can compete with combustion trucks without subsidies, that's fine, but there is no reason to subsidize.

  • Household outlet (10 A, 230 V) delivers 2.3 kW, taking approximately 6 hours 53 minutes for a full charge.
  • Public AC station (15 A, 230 V) delivers 3.5 kW, reaching 100% in about 4 hours
I can fill up my tank from empty in five minutes. Six minutes if I go inside for a Big Gulp.

There is no real secret here, it's always going to be a tradeoff between range, weight and charge times.

And what all was done to do this?

Well, to start speeds of 20-25 mph. And add to that no cargo, only the driver in the vehicle, and no use of climate control in addition to doing it during the summer when battery performance is improved by warmer temperatures.

Can anybody really anticipate driving at 25 mph in the summer with windows rolled up and no climate control?

There have been solar only vehicles crossing the country some 35 years ago. Does not mean such will ever be a reality in the future.
