Glenn Greenwald resigns from the intercept

Glen Greenwald, a long-time liberal journalist, is leaving the Intercept, a journalistic platform he helped create. He resigned over accusations that editors there have sacrificed journalistic integrity to block information damaging to a democratic president. Greenwald is among the few today in the US journalistic profession that still believe honesty in reporting and the free exchange of ideas is crucial to an informed democracy.

Anyone that does not live under a rock knows that American journalism today is nearly as low on the trust scale as US Congress and Washington, and for good reason. Older Americans that actually received a legitimate education, remember vividly being taught that totalitarian countries use their press as propaganda spreadsheets for the government. They recall that in the former Soviet Union, news reporting was nothing more than a public relations advertisement for central planning and socialist control of the citizen.

The result was that millions of Soviet citizens never knew there was any other way to conduct the administration of policies reported to be for the good of the people. In the 1960’s when Russia’s people wanted washing machines and television sets, they got missiles and tanks and went hungry and cold in the process.

The soviet press like America’s press is doing during this election cycle, reported only “good” news for its leadership and blocked any whisper of scandal or wrongdoing connected to its government representatives. Any Soviet citizen that bucked the system was accused of “slandering the state” or what the new rendition of American journalism and its cousin, social media sites call “spreading unverified hate speech”.

People in totalitarian countries are punished severely for criticizing the government and incredibly, the US Government turned its intelligence agencies inward on its own people to take down the administration of Donald Trump for attacking corrupt government shill, Hillary Clinton. So, anyone that does not think it can happen here better think again.

Joe Biden’s use of his son as a bag man to collect bribes from state enemies is getting a good leaving alone by the majority of the US press because the old totalitarian methodology of the end justifying the means is in play as we speak. In America, the mission of the press is to get “all” the information to the people and let them decide if its is relevant. It is not to filter information that might be bad for the government.

Salute Glen Greenwald.

Why bring me into this?

Greewnwald is anti Trump- did y'all know that?

Older Americans that actually received a legitimate education,
Bullshit- legitimate is an improper description.

legitimate: conforming to the law or to rules.

It would seem, for an older folk, Ray, you would consider honesty as an attribute and virtue.

Intellectual dishonesty and hyperbole are not really a credible endeavor- not per this older folks unlegitimate education which stopped, voluntarily, in the 9th grade, in 1963.

This Country hasn't had a *proper* education system since the fed gov't became involved- although what passes for education is legitmate, per the definition of legitimate.

proper: of the required type; suitable or appropriate.

So, what is deemed "suitable, or appropriate" in education? And by what authority does the fed gov't deem itself the arbiter of said suitable or appropriate? I can't find that authority granted in the rules for those in authority. Can you point it out to me?

Anonymous tip offs that have no real basis by both sides and you want to point fingers at one side and claim slanderous outrage!?

This is the free press and it has always been this way.

When the conservative fascists complete the impeached president trump's transition to dictator, FOX Noise will be the state's news broadcaster.

Their experience spewing right wing propaganda is unmatched.

Journalist Glenn Greenwald has resigned from The Intercept, seven years after co-founding the online publication, citing censorship by his own editors over an article concerning former Vice President Joe Biden.

This is outrageous...The left has lost their minds...Journalism is dead in this country.
The Russian loving Tucker Carlson best friend quits the intercept. I'm crying so much.

So The Intercept didn't fall for Rudy's latest ruse? Good for them and much respect. Good riddance to Greenwald!

What good is the Free Press if Banana Republicans can't force them all to publish last minute National Enquirer level shockers. We'll just have to lie and call it Censorship, stomp our feet, and whine a little........

Our resident Trumpettes are furious that another bogus, debunked Rudy Ruse hasn't been covered by many other than Tucker Carlson. :)

I dunno. So much for the old gag about if you don't like it go start your own web site? Ha.

Anyway....

''In a lengthy resignation letter on Thursday, Greenwald wrote, “The same trends of repression, censorship and ideological homogeneity plaguing the national press generally have engulfed the media outlet I co-founded, culminating in censorship of my own articles.”

Greenwald says the the outlet refused to publish an article he’d written critical of former Vice President Joe Biden. The Intercept co-founder alleges that the piece — which he plans to self-publish shortly — raises “critical questions about Biden’s conduct.”

“The Intercept’s editors, in violation of my contractual right of editorial freedom, censored an article I wrote this week, refusing to publish it unless I remove all sections critical of Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden, the candidate vehemently supported by all New-York-based Intercept editors involved in this effort at suppression,” Greenwald wrote.''

Yeah, it's already falling apart. It's a shame. I used to be a huge Glenn Greenwald fans and when I posted something from him here all the "conservatives" would slam him as a Liberal hack.

What do Glenn's former colleagues at the Intercept have to say about his departure?

https://theintercept.com/2020/10/29/glenn-greenwald-resigns-the-intercept/

"GLENN GREENWALD’S DECISION to resign from The Intercept stems from a fundamental disagreement over the role of editors in the production of journalism and the nature of censorship.

"Glenn demands the absolute right to determine what he will publish. He believes that anyone who disagrees with him is corrupt, and anyone who presumes to edit his words is a censor.

"Thus, the preposterous charge that The Intercept’s editors and reporters, with the lone, noble exception of Glenn Greenwald, have betrayed our mission to engage in fearless investigative journalism because we have been seduced by the lure of a Joe Biden presidency.

"A brief glance at the stories The Intercept has published on Biden will suffice to refute those claims."

Greenwald got noticed for his anti-Bush blogs, but he found his audience when he published Edward Snowden's revelations.

Possibly his tendency towards rabid contrarian criticism had made him tolerable only to Fox News fanatics?
