Gladiator II

I don't a damn what your color is, all I can do is judge you by your words.
Which words lead you to form the belief I'm a racist? can you quite what I said that supports your belief?

Yes.

Shakespeare spoke English and Latin.

The New York accent didn't exist two thousand years ago because the United States didn't exist two thousands years ago. English did exist two thousand years ago and there were diverse accents there two thousand years ago but a New York accent wasn't one of them.

As I said, any movie set in antiquity should not contain things that pertain to modern civilization, it's a fail in my opinion if a movie like this were to have baseball caps, bubble gum, cigarettes, guns and yes New York or any other modern accent.
They didn't speak English then either, what we know as English didn't develop until the early middle ages, about 1000 years after the events in the movie were to take place.

I never said Romans back then spoke English and the English language - in Britain - is closer to 1,600 years old which equates to approx. 400 AD (5th century) that's when it arrived from overseas, not when it began to exist, it already existed in an earlier form and was present within the territories of the former Roman empire.

The problem I have with the movie is that it cannot create a sense that one is watching and immersed in antiquity, like 200 AD when there are things that pertain to the modern world - like a New York accent.

Speaking English is fine because few people speak or expect Latin, but allowing a clearly very modern development like a New York accent is as inappropriate as modern clothes, cigarettes, bubble gum, bicycles and so on, it completely undermines the attempts to take the viewer back in time.

This will likely mean nothing to you since the United States has no significant history and many here don't grasp that, don't grasp how very recent the United States is.

This movie SUCKED. Horrible writing. Horrible acting. They must have paid Denzel a buttload of money to be in this movie. What a waste.

I was quite looking forward to this but on discovering that Denzel Washington's accent in the movie is his native New York accent, I decided I'm never going to watch this film. I expect more from a fil maker like Ridley Scott and this is just too much, a joke, he's failed as a director.

Actors who can't do accents shouldn't be used in such movies, it's also mainly an American weakness, many current British actors do excellent US accents but few US movie actors can do that, they're just sloppy.
I quite liked the movie. The visuals are stunning and Denzel portrays one of the best bad guys I've seen in a while.

geez. Y'all are arguing over accents??? I didn't even notice. I was trying to like the fucking movie and it was a lost cause. The writing was horribe. The CGI was just as bad. The plot was worse. It is just overall BAD.

I was hoping Denzel was the black guy burying Maximus idols in the sand and saying "we will meet again. But not yet". Alas....it didn't happen and Denzel was a bad guy. I didn't figure out if he was a good guy or a bad guy until halfway thru.

Damn Denzel....be more picky. This movie did not suit your talents at all.
