Sand, not salt.Do you grit your roads?

My corner of the Midwest has had almost no snow and relatively mild temps. A few nights of below zero, but definitely now our usual.
Oh, LAWDY! Must be that global warming stuff, ya think?
.
I am a lifelong Pittsburgher. One of the peculiarities of Pittsburgh weather is that we AVOID most of the big storms that come out of the West (all our weather comes from the West). The big storms either pass south and east of us, or north toward lake Erie.
So year after year, we get warnings to be prepared, but most often the actual storm is anti-climatic.
And that is what we are seeing right now (Wednesday afternoon). The BEST local forecasters are saying things like, "..there is a 20% chance that we will get next-to-nothing, a 50% chance of getting 12 inches or less(!), and a 30% chance of a BIG STORM..."
I suppose it would be too embarrassing to say, "We have no ******* idea..."
I'm retired and well-provisioned. I pay people to deal with the snow, and there is no place I need to be on Saturday or Sunday. I see it all from an entertainment perspective.
You are wise, my friend.I have spent so many winters in the ice and snow and I decided after I retired, I want as little to do with ice and snow as possible.
Alaska, Idaho, Eastern Washington, just got tired of it.
It's been in the 50s daytime and reached 28 degrees at night, in the Ocala region of Florida.... It's been pretty cold!
If the sun is out, I would recommend you try to get a tan.I'd rather have your snow. It's supposed to drop to -40 here Thursday night and stay in the mid -30's for three days.
We are sitting at a very balmy 35 F right now. Vastly superior to the 12 F we've been enjoying! Here in the Valley of the Sun, we might not reach 70 F for a few days.
.I'm on the West Coast and quite a bit south of you. As I type this at 10:30 am Thursday it is 68 with an expected high of 76. High tomorrow 82.![]()
We are expected to be hit by a major weather system over the coming weekend.
Of course, they can't make up their mind if the Valley is gonna get 1-3" to over a foot yet.
Anyway, I gassed and fired up the snow blower and 4-wheeler w/plow....Anticipation intensifies.....Bring it!
If the sun is out, I would recommend you try to get a tan.
Seattle when sunny is one of the most beautiful cities from up at Queen Anne Hill, but the constant clouds, rain, traffic, high prices, taxes, expensive housing, high crime and homelessness makes it unbearable to live there. Dark dreary winters are just unbearable..
I made the best trade-off possible. I moved from the Pacific Coast of Western Washington, to the extreme southeast corner of South Dakota, where the overnight low is forecast to be -20° tonight.
I'm still very happy with the trade.

We went south and not California and enjoy sunshine, warm temperatures and I an out of all that darkness.
The grocery stores are gonna be like roller derby today and tomorrow. Good thing my wife is tough. It's a plot to sell more milk, bread and toilet paper.
Forecast from 10" to 14"+ here depending on the snow/sleet line.So now we have it in Pittsburgh. The official forecast for Snow-mageddon is.......1"-3".
But it will be cold as the proverbial witch's teat in the meantime. Of that they are quite certain.
