Getting ready for Snowpocalypse 2026

.

My corner of the Midwest has had almost no snow and relatively mild temps. A few nights of below zero, but definitely now our usual.

Oh, LAWDY! Must be that global warming stuff, ya think?

.

The AGWCult responds: You Fool of a denier! It's colder BECAUSE of ManMade Global Warming

Here, follow the science

I am a lifelong Pittsburgher. One of the peculiarities of Pittsburgh weather is that we AVOID most of the big storms that come out of the West (all our weather comes from the West). The big storms either pass south and east of us, or north toward lake Erie.

So year after year, we get warnings to be prepared, but most often the actual storm is anti-climatic.

And that is what we are seeing right now (Wednesday afternoon). The BEST local forecasters are saying things like, "..there is a 20% chance that we will get next-to-nothing, a 50% chance of getting 12 inches or less(!), and a 30% chance of a BIG STORM..."

I suppose it would be too embarrassing to say, "We have no ******* idea..."

I'm retired and well-provisioned. I pay people to deal with the snow, and there is no place I need to be on Saturday or Sunday. I see it all from an entertainment perspective.

The Pitts are too far from the great lakes to really get many big snow events. Here in Mercer County, we get a lot more of the white stuff, and even more so in Erie.

live on the coast of North Carolina, we get snow maybe once every 10 years, no equipment to deal with it and we are a Marine Corps town so full of idiots that can't drive even in clear weather. we will probably get an ice storm and lose power

Here in the Valley of the Sun, we might not reach 70 F for a few days.

We are sitting at a very balmy 35 F right now. Vastly superior to the 12 F we've been enjoying!

I'm on the West Coast and quite a bit south of you. As I type this at 10:30 am Thursday it is 68 with an expected high of 76. High tomorrow 82. :D
.

I made the best trade-off possible. I moved from the Pacific Coast of Western Washington, to the extreme southeast corner of South Dakota, where the overnight low is forecast to be -20° tonight.

I'm still very happy with the trade.

.

We are expected to be hit by a major weather system over the coming weekend.

Of course, they can't make up their mind if the Valley is gonna get 1-3" to over a foot yet.

Anyway, I gassed and fired up the snow blower and 4-wheeler w/plow....Anticipation intensifies.....Bring it!

It's been a snow globe in MI for days now, and more and more to come. UGH, I'm done with it already!

If the sun is out, I would recommend you try to get a tan.

Actually I live in a 3rd floor apartment that faces south and the sun is so low I can get a tan sitting on my couch. It snowed yesterday the sun is out and the snow is melting on my balcony while the temperature is -27. No it's not heat from the building causing it. Gotta love Canada

Seattle when sunny is one of the most beautiful cities from up at Queen Anne Hill, but the constant clouds, rain, traffic, high prices, taxes, expensive housing, high crime and homelessness makes it unbearable to live there. Dark dreary winters are just unbearable.

We went south and not California and enjoy sunshine, warm temperatures and I an out of all that darkness.

Yes. I spent most of my adult life in Seattle and loved the city. Breathtaking beauty when the sun came out. It started going right straight downhill about twelve years ago, when hubby and I decided we'd have to move out of our beautiful home in Fremont because the drug sellers were parking their run down RV's just too close, and making all their wares available to our neighbors' children.

I don't know what will ever bring the city back.

Ted left for Cancun, so I'm concerned. We'll most likely get an ice storm with some snow. You really can't drive on that, even with 4 wheel drive. I just hope they don't rotate electrical power like they did in '21.
I shopped this morning for eats, heats (firewood), and throne seats. The latter being something that I've put off for too long.

So now we have it in Pittsburgh. The official forecast for Snow-mageddon is.......1"-3".

But it will be cold as the proverbial witch's teat in the meantime. Of that they are quite certain.

It's a plot to sell more milk, bread and toilet paper.
The grocery stores are gonna be like roller derby today and tomorrow. Good thing my wife is tough.

We are looking at around 2 feet of snow, if the forecast is to be believed (as often wrong as it is right).

Forecast from 10" to 14"+ here depending on the snow/sleet line.

LOL....They say you should go out mid-storm and move snow.....At 2" an hour falling mid-storm they can kiss my ass. That's what I have a blower and plow for after it's over. ;)
