HGV drivers from the European Union will not come to the UK on short-term contracts to ease the fuel crisis under government proposals announced at the weekend due to poor working conditions in the industry, a union official in Europe has warned.

“The EU workers we speak to will not go to the UK for a short-term visa to help the UK out of the shit they created themselves,” said Edwin Atema, the head of research and enforcement at the Netherlands-based FNV union, which represents drivers across the bloc.

The deal that they are being offered is shit , insulting even, Having been booted out they are being offered a temp visa that expires on Xmas eve. Happy holidays !!

We are 100k drivers short and they are issuing 5000 visas that expire on Xmas eve. That is the extent of tory planning.

A year ago these very same drivers spent december impounded in a field in Kent as the Brexit mess started to take hold. The locals fed them by throwing water bottles and sandwiches over a fence.

This is the issue. The UK is short of workers. 100k drivers, 112k in health care and so on.The tory solutions are to offer more money to fill those positions. This just moves the problem to another sector. The tories havent realised that yet. The obvious answer is to welcome EU workers back. But that is a betrayal of brexit which was essentially just to get rid of the foreigners who did all of our work.
