Well okay it seems like there are many people in the country supporting gay marriages. But still the majority doesn't want to desecrate once holy union of two persons of opposite sex.

Most Americans do support same sex marriages, and many countries (like the baltic states) pass it to piss off the homophobes in the Russian government. So the reasons for supporting same-sex marriage are not only a case of what should be, but also a statement of opposition to socially backward and insular states like Russia.

Yeah it's perfectly understandable that not allowing gay people to marry is an attack their freedoms but it's not like I want to live in a country changing the most basic things that fast.

Living in the fast lane is better than living in the slow lane, societies that adapt to changing attitudes succeed, as they are able to unite the vast majority, rather than fall into the minorities don't matter trap.

By going after gays you cut productivity of around 5%+ of the population, going after the non-religious and non-practicing another 10%, and so on.
