Mrs MOe wants a gas stove...so she is doing research.

What has she found out?

Electric start buttons.

Electric coil start oven.

No pilot lights.

No bypass for oven electric start.

Gas shut off when the power goes out.

Wtf?

It does sound like you can still start it with a match.

Lots of changes have been made to improve safety and function. There is a lot of talk lately about gas stoves making the air less safe by aggravating asthma, and other problems. No doubt some smart person will figure out how to reduce those problems too, and all the crazies who are frantic because somebody told them somebody was going to take all the gas stoves will quietly forget their current hair on fire reaction and move on to the next hair on fire reaction.

Welcome to inept government over-regulation. They don't know shit about anything but have a hand in everything you buy so to justify their existence. Look for an older used gas range---- if you can handle a 600 pound cast iron gas range with a smallish oven, look to buy yourself a Chambers.

You need a stove with battery operated ignitor...or a battery back up.

WTF is a Summit or Unique appliance? Get a freaking VULCAN:

That's how ours is.
The oven is all push button and everything is electric ignition.
Still glad to have gas. We recently converted from electric range.
Power goes out, I will run a cord from a generator if need be. Rarely have power outages here though.

Yeah my modern has an electric start but you can still light it with a match
Duhhhh

Did they outlaw pilot lights? People would go on vacation thier pilot lights would go out and the house would blow up .
Growing up we had pilot lights in the stove and the hot water heater

The burners work but the oven will not.

"Ovens are a different story. Gas stove ovens lit by electric glow-bar ignition systems cannot be used in a power failure. The gas valve feeding the oven is electrically interconnected with the igniter and will not open unless the igniter is working."

It's been many years since I've used a gas stove. But during power outages, we could till have a hot meal and used the oven for heat since the gas furnace needed electricity for the blower.

Go with a wood cook stove instead.......it'll work as long as you have wood to burn

Some stoves with this type of ignition have battery back-ups for such an occasion.
