What nonsense. You don’t know anything about how to maintain a large power grid. When those windmills and solar stop working entirely, it puts an immediate strain on the other generation sites. The BES is down power generation and makes balancing even more difficult. Couple that with a huge uncommon demand makes balancing that much more difficult. It isn’t just about the power output, it’s about balance. Then throw in the weather causing damage to power lines, causing more strain and spikes in the BES. One failure in the BES can lead to a domino effect.

If their Republican leadership had been willing to accept Federal Regulation, their power systems would be integrated with the rest of the country and they'd be supplied with power from outside Texas.

It wouldn't have mattered if parts of their systems failed or went 'Out of Balance'.

You have zero comprehension of how it works if you can say something as stupid as “it wouldn’t matter” if parts fail or go out of balance. Why do you think the agencies that run power grids are called a “Balancing Authority”? If the balance is lost, the power goes out, and yes that can happen when there is too much power just as easily if there isn’t enough. The local outages due to damage cannot be solved by dumping more power, it can only be fixed when the local lines and transformers are fixed.

The frozen windmills are due to shoddy and cheap maintenance. Windmills in Maine don't seem to freeze up and stop working like all those in Texas.

Also, the main source of power for some research stations in Antarctica is windmills. Think they might get some cold weather down there?

Well honey, that's the reason Texas is so fk'd at this moment! They didn't want to be regulated and told what to do! This is the result of incompentence, poor planning, and a true lack of fiscal responsibility! This will end up costing them more than the modifications to winterize the equipment! This reminds me of that oil company trying to save $500 K by not have a backup retaining wall when drilling in the bottom of the Gulf! That spill from a decade ago is still being felt by the locals!

What a crock of shit. Tax breaks and the way power is purchased in TX rewards unreliable power such as wind and solar. This has caused suppliers to spend where the tax breaks are, instead of investing in and maintaining reliable sources like nuclear, gas and coal plants. Add to that the failure of reliability commission to physically inspect the plants due to the covid excuse. And Texans are paying the price. BTW wind is rated at 30 gigawatts of power and are currently producing less than 1 gigawatt, solar is near zero.

Why bother heating wind turbines (as they do in cold climates) when the temperature is rising so fast the whole planet will be sterile in 9 years. Really. Texas should not feel at all badly about swallowing the global warming swill. In switching to green energy renewables California cannot meet energy needs and also has rolling blackouts in hot weather enough to cause a stroke.

The danger is allowing this insanity to spread and make the entire nation as bad off as Texas. Treat belief in global warming as a communicable disease.

Companies will invest where the federal subsidies are, it's just that simple. Add that the way ERCOT requires transmission companies to buy energy, it kills the business model of sustainable sources. They can't make money when the weather is fair and solar and wind can undercut their costs.
