Yes, that's exactly how I did it with my, 1969 Falcon.
OK, not really.
But I did often use my 1963 Tektronix 502A oscilloscope with it.
I'd wrap one wire around the main feed into the distributor, and feed that into one channel on my oscilloscope, and wrap another wire around the #1 spark plug wire out of the distributor, and feed that into another channel; and set it to trigger on the #1 wire.
That way, I'd see all the spark plug pulses, and the #1 pulse on a separate trace for reference.
