I liked him in "Flight of the Intruder" and "Cape Fear". He seemed to play the same part in both movies. I was annoyed when he quit the Senate but I guess it was about health issues. I thought it was a bit disingenuous to use his stature and reputation to make a buck by selling freaking insurance or was it mortgages and I still do but RIP anyway.

Fred Thomson, the former U.S. senator from Tennessee, Republican presidential candidate and “Law and Order” actor, died Sunday after a recurrence of lymphoma. He was 73.

Thompson’s family announced the news in a statement, which was published in The Tennessean.

“It is with a heavy heart and a deep sense of grief that we share the passing of our brother, husband, father, and grandfather who died peacefully in Nashville surrounded by his family,” the statement said.

He was one of the few '08 candidates I liked. He would of made an awesome President. Instead we got stuck with McLiberal as the GOP candidate and hence the Affirmative Action Prez.

I'm trying to think of what I enjoyed him in as an actor . . .

I liked him in the seasons he did on Law and Order.

He was also in a very interesting movie about the Scopes Monkey Trial which was historically accurate titled "Alleged". He played William Jennings Bryant. While this was produced by Christians with an agenda, it had a high level of historical accuracy. (Compared to the 20 versions of "Inherit the Wind", which were crap history.)

Guy, the point was, he got all you Conservatives worked up, but he was really just running as a stalking horse for his buddy JOhn McCain, to keep conservative support from drifting to Romney or Huckabee.

It amazes me you guys let yourselves get fooled like that. Of course, 2008 is when I STOPPED letting myself get fooled by the right.

He wasn't THAT good of an actor. He basically played one character. A good actor is one who can play ANY character and completely disappears into the role.

He played one Character - "Good Old Boy Authority Figure". and if he had good writers like Dick Wolf, he sounded pretty good.

2008 is what happened when Dick Wolf wasn't writing for him, and it wasn't pretty.

Don't want to dump on the guy now that he's dead, but you all on the right thought he was the Second Coming of Ronald Reagan, which he wasn't.

Well he was a racist. Karma made him catch Alzheimer's. in his last term.
