Under the Swiss system, if a person can't afford Health Insurance, the government buys it for them. 100%

Under the Lying **********'s system, if you can't afford it you have to go on Medicaid, aka Welfare. A State program.

Now, here's the kicker.

Many people retire before they reach the age of MediCARE eligibility, which is 65.

If you do retire and you don't have an Income (living off your savings) you can't get obamacare because you MUST earn at least (last I looked) $11,000 a year.

If you don't earn that much, you CAN NOT GET THE ACA. You have to go on your State's Medicaid. It's called the Coverage Gap Medicaid coverage gap - Wikipedia

Many States opted out of the Lying **********'s Medicaid Expansion because -- Well, dimocraps are lying scum.

So that leaves around 3 million people unable to get on the ACA but can't get much in the way of private insurance.

Like my wife.

She's 63, retired, and makes zero money. She can't get on Medicaid in Florida because FL, intelligently, opted out of the Lying **********'s idiotic plan.

She also can't get on Medicaid because we own a house and I have an income from my 401k.

But she doesn't. Yeah, it's that fucked up.

Also, because my wife needs the ACA (which she's on) we can't take much money out of our 401k.

The ACA is means tested. The more money you make, the more money you pay to the Lying **********'s plan.

I can barely touch my retirement because, if I take out much more (it counts as income), my wife's premium goes from $350 a Month to as high as $1,800 a Month.

The Swiss System isn't Means Tested.

But that is hardly the only reason I despise dimocrap scum with every fiber of my being. There are many other reason that are more important.

Besides, I've never met a government program I couldn't outsmart. So, I am.

The issue is the real costs of medicine. I had a hernia operation several years ago in which I negotiated because of affordability. I am not doing so well now.

I don't think anyone knows the real costs of healthcare. Get a surgery and they will tell you it was $50K, but with insurance price in $25K. Then insurance covers $20K so you get a $5K bill. Usually it seems like the $5K could have covered it all....

The reason why medical bills are so high is the decades we had with the republican plan that reagan forced on us in the 80s.

That system kicked people who got sick off insurance or capped the payments leaving people bankrupt and billions in medical bills not paid.

That system created "cost shifting." reagan said that those unpaid bills would be paid by those of us who could pay our bills or have insurance.

I was in an ICU unit for a week in Maui in 2009. Hawaii had a state health care system that covered those who didn't have insurance. Not medicaid. Those who qualified for medicaid were on the program but those who didn't qualify for medicaid but didn't have insurance or had been labeled "preexisting condition" so no insurance company would sell them a policy they could afford were offered public coverage through the state.

The result of that was that no medical bill went unpaid.

The result of that was much lower health care expenses than here in the mainland.

I was in an ICU unit for a week. Was seen by a wide range of doctors from cardiologists to breathing teams to neurologists and neurosurgeons. My ex and I expected that bill to be at least 40 thousand dollars if not more.

That bill was 26 thousand dollars. The whole thing. We didn't have to pay it, the insurance did but we were shocked at how low that bill was. The reason for it was that I was paying for only the care I received. No one else's. No one's bill was left unpaid and "cost shifted" to me and others who had insurance or could pay.
