Supreme Court Deals Devastating Blow To The Voting Rights Act
The court's decision in Louisiana v. Callais takes the teeth out of the Voting Rights Act, making it nearly impossible to draw new minority districts.
Our nation's Leftists are having a collective Hissy Fit over the recent USSC decision shooting down Louisiana's gambit to ensure a Congressional district that is dominated by Americans of Black African heritage (aka "Black folks").
Constitutional questions aside, consider the underlying assumptions of this collective outrage. The assumption is that Black folks in Louisiana CANNOT be adequately represented by anyone who is not also Black. No White person can represent them. Does that mean that Barry Soetoro was not adequately representing White and Asian Americans during his two awful terms?
The hyperbole is astounding. I am seeing Democrats claiming that this decision takes away Black voting rights!
The Voting Rights Act was based on that assumption as well. Maybe Black folks need to consider producing candidates with universal appeal. OR maybe they need to consider whether it is appropriate for government officials in any capacity should be doing stuff that is targeted at EVERYONE, and not just a single demographic.
