Those people made the same error. The final withdrawal date has been broadcast for well over a year. The withdrawal itself basically began 5 years ago. The people "stuck" there now looked around and saw no threat and so did not take it seriously enough. Then the Taliban, with 5 years to plan (some say 20), did about what everyone knew they would do. But they did it in weeks instead of months, which surprised pretty much everyone, as did the complete unwillingness of the Afghan military to put up a challenge. But to act like these people did not have plenty of notice or opportunity to leave is just not correct.

As for the equipment: Again, the speed of the Taliban and ineffectiveness of the Afghan military are the big factors. They have been leaving equipment for months. For example, Bagram base. We left equipment behind and it was handed over to the Afghan military. That was the end of June, I believe.

So much of this is overblown and was destined to happen. The wild card here appears to be the speed with which the Taliban advanced and the complete unwillingness of the Afghan military to fight. So the only cure for this appears just to have continued to stay there indefinitely.

Trump dropped our troop level to 2500 mere days before leaving it all up to the next guy. How did the contested and violence transfer of power effect the policy decision of the new administration?

Mr. Boo, President Trump was President at the time, but even back then Trump followed the wise advice of brave men who told him the truth and he would have gotten civilians out before making a unilateral decision of jerking them out on a mentally confused whim of a dementia victim who was shoved to the head of the class just weeks after he described his extortion success to pals at the expense of foreign aid from U.S. taxpayers to the tune of a million and a half for his son Hunter and a billion for himself. Who took our troop levels down to 2500 without confirming that the Taliban was keeping their end of Trumps Surrender Terms. They weren't.
