Former GOP. Rep who once voted against the Affordable Care act becomes paralyzed in accident and is asking for $2.5 million on GoFundMe

My guess is that he’s uninsured as those medical bills would eclipse out of pocket maximums for any policy.

Good thing you guys got rid of the individual mandate.

SCOTUS did that for ya. Being that it was illegal and all. It's against the law to force someone to buy something they don't want. Any party that supports that IS the threat to democracy.

He’s a Vet…why had xiden and Harris’s VA failed this man?

LInk? As far as I'm aware, Roberts court upheld the mandate. I remember reading the ruling with great disappointment.

Apparently you are unaware. Roberts only upheld the ACA, but removed the mandate.

Apparently you are unaware.

I was aware of the state court ruling. You said SCOTUS, but they actually approved it. In 2019, Congress reduced penalty to zero, effectively neutering it, but the it's still the law and a nominal requirement. So much for awareness.

The 5th circuit is not a state court, its a federal appellate court. So much for awareness.

It was ruled unconstitutional by a federal court. It's dead. I remember it being appealed to the SCOTUS. SCOTUS dissented on the decision, basically not overruling the 5th circuit.

Well it was ruled unconstitutional. By who doesn't matter.
Matters to me. It would have been far more meaningful if Robert's had the balls to declare it unconstitutional out of the gate.
It's dead.
It's really not. The law is still on the books and the penalty can be adjusted by a vote of Congress.

It doesn't matter at this point. The insurance industry succeeded in getting into bed with government - to ride the gravy train. Trump promised to undo this, but he didn't. And he won't.

The op, and the sentiment it expresses, is one of the most infuriating things about liberals. And it's such a common pattern. They cook up a "solution" to some perceived social problem. Then they insist that anyone who opposes their solution is either denying that there is a problem or actually wants people to suffer or somesuch. It's fake and it's tiresome. It certainly doesn't persuade anyone.
Romney cooked up Obamacare. Obama got it passed by tweaking, compromising, obscuring, selling out, appeasing.. because he figured doing something always beats truly offering any public option. His public option yabber was just happy talk to get elected. It worked. The Republicans countered with their Republican Healthcare Plan (aka Die Quickly). The Republicans still cry and offer only their Republican Healthcare Plan (aka Die Quickly). Thus why we still have the ACA. Something rather than nothing. Something rather than any real start or solution.. such as a public option. Dog forbid, Medicare4All. Permanent gridlock. Credit where due. What do you have to offer?

Were you one of those kids who could only get attention by acting out? By being a little brat so that mom and dad would pay attention?
You seem to love negative attention here. :itsok:
Nah, I was always that kid that had the balls to say all the shit that pussy’s wouldn’t.
The only negative attention I get comes from globalist purple hair degenerates, woke white guilt wackos, faggots and foreigners…which I always hope to receive.

No, SCOTUS said the individual mandate was perfectly legal.

Republicans set the penalty to zero in 2017.

You guys are quite uninformed.

I guess this proves that the "affordable care act" does nothing to make care affordable huh? If he's got to beg for money now? So much for that.
If anything, it proves he didn't sign up. It does help a segment of people too rich for Medicaid and too poor to buy health insurance at market rates. It provides no healthcare. It makes insurance execs and billionaire investors rich on the taxpayer's dime. This guy voted against it and fell off a horse. Life is hard. I wish the same for anyone promoting Medicare DisAdvantage.
