Forget What You're Being Told. Here's the Real Reason for California's Trucker Shortage.

Kinda like a smokin' hot girl friend telling you you have to fuck her or she'll leave you.
Hahaha!

The owner operator contracts are dogshit. They’re exclusive, rate set, and if you miss one payment everything you invested into it is lost.

You can't fire an owner operator, since they are not employees
Dumb ass. They were employees were told to become owner operators or they would no longer be employed.

If it was such a good idea, why the pressure?

Forced to sign the contracts or fired.
This is so ridiculous, it qualifies as lefty hall of fame material. Employees have to sign contracts as well, or they can be fired.

The hospital where you wax the floors can fire you as well, if you don't sign whatever contracts they want you to sign. You are always free to be a janitor at another hospital though...

Sounds like a typical mortgage to me. You can't agree to pay 4% on your mortgage and then get all upset because your home is foreclosed because you missed payments and changed your own interest rates, right? How about your car payment? If you miss car payments and pay at a lower interest rate than agreed upon, would you be surprised to see a tow truck in your driveway?

Might as well be a mortgage because to pay the bills they basically have to live in their truck and drive non-stop.

When you get a mortgage or car loan, they typically look to see if you can pay for it. Here, it’s like they’re almost hoping you bail so they keep the truck. That way they can “sell” it to the next person without ever losing it.

You just described OTR trucking. The money is better for OTR drivers because they live over the road. Local drivers get paid less, but they get to go home every night and get some pussy.

You realize this was about local drivers, right?

If you don't have a solid business plan, your business will fail. If you sign a lease, purchase agreement, or any financial agreements, you need to be able to honor what you signed for.

Exactly. The trucking companies are pushing these contracts on people who don’t have any of that.

And they do it because it’s beneficial for the companies, at the expense of the drivers.

Little wonder why there’s a driver shortage.

No, it is about how dems are fucking up the supply chain with their efforts to increase union membership by forcing owner operators to identify as employees.

Nobody is being forced to sign contracts, purchase or lease trucks, or even have anything to do with trucking companies.

Trucks are just sweatshops on wheels, which is why the turnover is so high. most new drivers quit in less than a year. They're the smart ones; the life expectancy of a truck driver is 61 years. OTR drivers do not make more money than local drivers; they make a higher gross, but they work far longer hours and get paid for less than half of those.

And, re unions in general, some 40%-45% of Republicans and close to 60% of independents look favorably on union representation at private companies now, so the far right social darwinists can expect to lose a lot of votes in the next decade with their mindless class warfare, same as their cousins on the left.

Then why are they forcing people to sign or be fired?
For the same reason people have to sign when they promise to pay back a home loan. If you don't like the terms, you move on. When you sign a contract, you are signing that you agree to the terms. If you are stupid enough to sign a contract that you can't follow through on, then your business isn't going to succeed anyway.

Difference is no one is saying take this home loan or lose your job.

The trucking companies said take this horseshit deal we offer you or you’re fired.

I don’t have a lot of sympathy for trucking companies who coerce people to sign shit deals and no complain that no one wants to work for them.

You are conflating company drivers with owner operators. OTR drivers come in both company AND owner operators..

If you are stupid enough to sign a bad deal, your business will likely fail. Better to just keep being an employee or move on to the hundreds of other trucking companies who are hungry for drivers.

Agree, they were better off still being an employee.

BUT THEY WERE NOT GIVEN THAT OPTION.

Sign the deal or be fired. That was their choice.

...they were better off still being an employee.
Lefties like to believe they know what's best for everybody else, then they mandate what they think that is. This is why the supply chain is fucked up. Everything dems touch breaks, dies, or turns to shit. Righties build the shining city on a hill, and lefties dismantle it.
