Capitol rioter who breached Senate gets 8 months for felony
A Florida man who breached the U.S. Senate chamber carrying a Trump campaign flag has received an eight-month prison term.

In pronouncing the sentence, Judge Randolph Moss said that Hodgkins had played a role, if not as significant as others, in one of the worst episodes in American history. Still he chose to give Hodgkins a year less in prison. “That was not, by any stretch of the imagination, a protest,” Moss said. “It was … an assault on democracy.” He added: “It left a stain that will remain on us … on the country for years to come.”
Upon my recent research about the construction of the Constitution, I found this anecdote from Thomas Jefferson, the founder of the Democratic-Republic (present Democratic) political party who favored states' rights and opposed the Federalist party that advocated for a strong central (federal) government.
Even this evil is productive of good. It prevents the degeneracy of government, and nourishes a general attention to the public affairs. I hold it that a little rebellion now and then is a good thing, and as necessary in the political world as storms in the physical. Unsuccesful rebellions indeed generally establish the incroachments on the rights of the people which have produced them. An observation of this truth should render honest republican governors so mild in their punishment of rebellions, as not to discourage them too much. It is a medecine necessary for the sound health of government.
