For a summary of the history of the first erotic films.

As early as 1895, the year of the film's creation, Serpentine Dance's reel creates a stir at the Chicago World's Fair in 1893, to the point that it was destroyed a few years later. The following year, the first kiss on the screen in The Kiss, between John C. Rice and May Irwin, triggered controversy: a Chicago Tribube journalist asks for police intervention against this "obscenity."
Censorship appeared in 1907 in the United States and in 1909 in England and France

From there, nudity is revealed in two parallel circuits, the first, clandestine, with the making of erotic bands for a well-to-do bourgeoisie, the second, general public, in the form of suggestion. To show more than a bare shoulder, one needs an alibi, that of a "decadent" society
