I was a teenager and watched it by the hour. I knew the first song was "Video Killed the Radio Star", which is perfect.

My older students are currently obsessed with the 80s. They have taste

I was in school when MTV came out.
Friday night was music video night every week.

Oh yeah, I missed the live launch for sure. But it my memory it took no time at all for MTV to take off with teens. I watched it every day after school. Now, music videos are almost passe. They often don't even play music on MTV anymore....

I sample MTV videos and usually can't take more than 30 seconds. I'd say 1 in 10 is a "good video" the rest is just boilerplate smut, gruesome violence, AI generated lyrics, auto tuned voices.
