I won't get into the irony of a bunch of geriatrics, the least technically inclined people on the planet, attempting to legislate technology
Sen. Dianne Feinstein remains clueless on the technology issues that drive her state's economy.
The draft of an encryption bill authored by Feinstein and Sen. Richard Burr, R-N.C., is the most shocking example of her lack of understanding of the most basic Silicon Valley and e-commerce fundamentals. The only conclusion possible from reading the draft is that the authors don't know how encryption works.
"Ludicrous," "dangerous," and "technically illiterate" are the words used by the New America Foundation Open Technology Institute's Kevin Bankston to describe the legislation. The White House wisely declined to get behind it. The Senate should trash it and look somewhere other than Califormia for leadership on this national challenge.
Mercury News editorial: Feinstein still clueless on tech after all these years
