On Wednesday, January 10, 2018, US Federal (ICE) agents raided 7-11 stores in 17 states, looking for Illegal Aliens and demanding historical hiring documentation of the franchisees (owners).

It would appear that the Trump Administration is becoming serious about flushing-out Illegals and punishing their employers.

It's just a drop in the bucket and easily countered, but it's a start.

The difference between non-visa holders and visa holders is that you can deport visa holders without a hearing. You can't do that with people who snuck across. They need to have a court hearing and logs are backed up for years. This is especially true of people that came here from war torn or oppressive regions.

Another difference is that visa holders are not sneaking drugs into the country. A wall would help to slow that down. Many areas in the country are experiencing record cases of overdose and overdose deaths.

However if Democrats would get out of the way and allow for the wall to be built, it gives the Trump administration more time to address other illegal immigration problems.

The difference between non-visa holders and visa holders is that you can deport visa holders without a hearing. You can't do that with people who snuck across. They need to have a court hearing and logs are backed up for years. This is especially true of people that came here from war torn or oppressive regions.

Another difference is that visa holders are not sneaking drugs into the country. A wall would help to slow that down. Many areas in the country are experiencing record cases of overdose and overdose deaths.

However if Democrats would get out of the way and allow for the wall to be built, it gives the Trump administration more time to address other illegal immigration problems.

Im not advocating ignoring the problem. I think we should have gone after the people who hire illegals a long time ago. They are the root of the illegal immigration problem. Without an incentive to come here illegals would self deport or move on to Canada where they are welcome. The backlogs would disappear but we get to keep the bond money of those who didn't appear in court.

Refugee status in America vs illegal immigrant status: I assume you know the crucial difference between the two. Refugees from war torn countries are granted asylum in the USA or other nations contingent upon an acknowledgment by respective officials that the persons life is at risk should he/she be returned to country of origin.That's international law. After five years the refugee can apply for and be granted citizenship. The illegal immigrant processing system is entirely different.

With illegal immigration eliminated through more aggressive enforcement against employers who hire illegals the only justification left for Trump's Folly is the drug trade. And that justification is flimsy. The South American Drug cartels are sophisticated and rich enough to use ships, planes and or howitzers to get their drugs across the border.. Drones could deliver their payloads virtually undetected.
Su how can Trump's wall stop any of those methods? It can't.

Obama's use of the immigration bond device generated millions for the US treasury and the courts never got bogged down with backlogs because Obama thought things through before acting. Trump and Sessions Didn't think things through before arresting people snd denying them bond. Tax payes now have to house and feed the arrestees while Obamas bond plan put money in the US Treasury.

Naaaah, if they'd have been quicker, the agents would have caught a hundred more. What happens is that they run out the door and into the woods or around the buildings nearby. I have SEEN illegals run when there is a raid by Immigration --- it's the darndest thing to watch, like cockroaches scattering when you turn on the light in the kitchen. I hear you but I'm not convinced it is a zero-sum game. Everyone living here, legally or not, creates jobs that support them: construction of houses, health care, transportation, etc. More people = more jobs.

Then India and China should have 1% unemployment.

Neither India nor China have any substantial immigration so the comparison is not valid.

Nothing in your previous post limited the effect of "job creation" to just immigrants.

It is the obvious question.

It's a good question but really outside the question of US immigration. But since you asked, there are likely several answers:

• US is more business friendly than most countries
• If 0.1% of the population in a country wish to start companies, that would make a small impact there but if 1% of those immigrated we would get a large number of entrepreneurs. This self-selected group would make a large impact here. We would be skimming the cream. From my personal observation, it seems every Korean immigrant runs a small business here, if they did the same back in Korea, that is all we'd see there.
