Federal employee layoffs begin at Education Department

Our education system is failing for the following reasons.

1). Student come unprepared and many just don't care.
2). Parents don't hold their own children accountable.
3). There are no enforceable punishments for bad behavior.
You forgot got that the educational system is failing. The 3 R's are no longer,
DEI was the flavor of the month. The teacher's union really did screw the pooch when
it came to educating the children.
I imagine there are more problems, if I really gave a minute longer of thinking.

The 4 Core Subjects are absolutely taught.
It is just ignorance to claim otherwise.

My grandson is 4, and knows more than the average 1st grader.
Why, because his parents have taught him the basics.
My wife teaches in the Elementary, and is amazed how many students are not prepared at all.
Also, there are plenty of quality students that do come prepared.

Students and parents are the ones that fail.

But you are correct about the DEI, some of it is out of control, but not ALL DEI is bad or harmful.

Thank you for not telling us that schools are underfunded.

What you did not provide is the downsides of the States having the Feds act as dictators.
The feds provide 8-10% of Total Educational funding. See Post #32

If the Feds continue with the 8-10% funding, then I'm perfectly fine with the States being in charge of curriculum, testing, and setting the standards.

What do you propose to do about Democrats using the Department of Education as a Dictators tool? Even if the Department vanishes, how can the Democrat dictators be stopped?

Para Eds are underpaid.
Teacher are paid substantially, it varies by State, by a lot.
Administration is WAY overpaid, and WAY to top heavy.

When I first started teaching at School A, there was
1 Super
1 Assis Sup
1 Secretary
1 Finance Person/Curriculum Director
There were 4 people in the district office.
1HS, 1MS, 3 Elementary, each with 1 Principal.

In the 35 years since, the district has grown in size, by about double,
Still 1 HS, but 2 MS, and 5 Elementary, and 1 Alternative HS.
But the Administration has grown by 5 times that.
Each School has 1 Principal, 1-2 VP's, 1-4 Counsellors, 1-4 Dean of Students.
The District office now has over 100 employees, when 35 years ago it had 4.

You realize that there are also (R) in Education.

Department of Education staff will receive "reduction in force" notices Tuesday before nearly half of the department's workforce is terminated, Fox News Digital has learned.

Earlier Tuesday, a memo was sent to all Education Department employees informing them that Department of Education offices will be closed Tuesday evening through Wednesday due to "security reasons." Employees were instructed to leave the offices by 6 p.m. ET Tuesday.

Here we go....Let the rending, and gnashing of teeth begin....
Anytime I talk to leftists about the worthless department of education, the best thing they can come up with is: Who's going to feed the children during the summer months?

I hope that "almost 50%" is soon followed by the rest of the DoE staff. All that would be needed then would be for congress to defund the DoE & we are 50% of the way there! Then it's defund the EPA & send it into history!!!!! With the fore mentioned two bureaucracies combusted our America can finally start rising to new heights!

I tried to help you claim bad things about Democrats. All I do is try to help you.
Just stop Robert.
I've told you that I despise ALL Politicians, they are all corrupt.
I told you I support cutting the Federal Department of Education.

But you always have to circle back to me NOT attacking Democrats.
I've told you why, the ratio of right to left is at least 5:1 on this board.
You guys do plenty of attacking (D), so therefore I need to call out the LIES told by (R).

CA Representative Tom McClintock once gave brilliant talks on radio about the problem with public schools. He pointed out that in CA the overburden you mention consumes so much money that one could give teachers massive raises just to pay for the burden on the top.

To ensure you know about Tom McClintock, check him out.

Echo it much more than you attack Republicans. Lay it out on Democrats too. Add to the help you get from me and stop fighting me.

I went to the DoE website to clarify what it is they actually do.

Next to nothing. "policy papers", "offer guidance", "distribute funds". They. Do. Nothing.

Meanwhile, I am an actual educator and I work like a dog, day in and day out, for 30 years.

I will share my opinion on the DoE with any teacher at work who dares to say a word.

No the feds will end the practice of collecting education taxes and the states will take over... notice you don't see governors screaming about thus?.... right now the states collect the tax send it to DC and get a little back... that's silly and wasteful.... don't you think?...

And they need 4,000 people for this.

Meanwhile every single teacher I know is doing the work of at least two people right now.

DoE--well, bye

That is not even close to the main problem.

Students with no determination, no drive and no grit because gentle parenting has basically ruined them. Parents know this, but rather than take accountability, they send their child to school expecting everything to be fixed. And I don't mean "academic" everything. I mean EVERY. THING. Teach my child to: put on a coat, tie their shoes, share, get along with friends, deal with disappointments, not meltdown when things don't go their way, properly clean themselves after the toilet, brush their teeth.

When the teachers say "Hey I'm here to teach your child academics", the parents themselves meltdown.

Doubt it? Go peruse social media and survey what parents complain about.

Every teacher knows this. Every one.

$268B annually representing 4 Percent of the entire Federal Budget - for the Department of Education and what did it get US?

  • Terrible Math and Reading proficiencies
  • Increase in violence against teachers by students
  • Increase in Bullying
  • More “Restorative Justice” and less Personal Accountability.
