Thing is the people are dumb and greedy.
There is a poor city where I live, the government is trying to push through a data center and the town has voted it down and drowned out discussion at City Hall with their protests, it is unlikely to be built, at this time, anyway.

Better hope it's not a 3rd-party eminent domain supporting state.
 
I know this has been discussed, but I have not been following it too closely.
I think that there are around 3 states that did not change their laws (to a greater or lesser extent) when SCOTUS decided that 3rd party eminent domain was legal.

In Kelo v. City of New London (2005), the U.S. Supreme Court ruled 5–4 that the government could use eminent domain to take private property and transfer it to another private party for economic development, as long as the purpose was a legitimate public purpose. Wikipedia+1.
 
This reminds me of the time they flew a bunch of people in to work from India, who had to be trained by the people they were replacing as their jobs were moving to India. Those training them would not get severance pay if they did not participate.

Now the people who helped create AI are being replaced by it.
