The FBI reported performing a total of 2,545,802 NICS “Instant background checks” during January, 2016, a new record.
In terms of gun sales, assuming the January numbers are in line with past numbers, that represents approximately 1,700,000 new gun sales, and approximately 2,200,00 total gun “transfers, with some 225,000 of those going to first time gun owners.
This is only the second time the total number of January NICS checks have topped the two million mark, with 2013’s 2 2,445,440 being eclipsed by the January 2016. record.
Very good. Every gun sold represents that much more pressure on the criminal underworld and the political class. The one inhibits crime, the other inhibits anti-gun legislation. both of which are good things.
