Favorite Science Fiction & Fantasy films?

I also enjoy the ORIGINAL incarnation of Battlestar Galactica. The reboot was too dark for my tastes.
The reboot is not rerun on TV a lot. And it was dark like you typed and too much soap opera. The Baltar character screwed the survivors over and over and was still empowered.

I always enjoyed the 1978 Science Fiction/ mystery thriller film Coma based on the book by Michael Crichton.

As a lifelong Trekkie, I would rate the following movies in my order, and yes, although I do enjoy other Sci-Fi, Trek is my go-to.
1. Star Trek VI-The Undiscovered Country
2. Star Trek-Nemesis
3. Star Trek IV-The Voyage Home
4. Star Trek-The Motion Picture
5. Star Trek-Generations
6. Star Trek-First Contact
7. Star Trek II-The Wrath of Khan
8. Star Trek III-The Search for Spock
9. Star Trek V-The Final Frontier
10. Star Trek-Insurrection
Note I didn't include the JJ verse movies, although they appeal to me in an "alternate timeline" sort of way, I preferred the original canon films/series.
I grew up when William Shatner was Kirk, so I don't really have much interest in the newer ones. The way Whoopi Goldberg had turned out, has that tarnished her character in Star Trek?

I was a huge Star Trek fan as a kid. I would always turn on the series. I enjoyed the newer series too, but I prefer the original. My favorite character was "Spock" played by Lenoard Nimoy.

The 1960s version of course :)

Whoopi was an excellent actress. Guinan was a special character that played an important role in the series, but Whoopi has gone too far off the deep end politically to even be tolerated.

Too difficult for me to pick a favourite, too many good actors that fitted the characters.

My advice to all actors and actresses, just avoid religion and politics because it just alienates some of your audience. To me the goal of being a celeb is to have as many followers onboard, not to brass them off.

But with the likes of Star Trek and James Bond, I was brought up on the quirky old photography. All this CGI and higher definition spoils them for me.

I have Forbidden Planet on DVD with Leslie Nielsen in it. And the original 1940's When The Earth Stood Still film. Both classics.

Star Trek Discovery starred Crying Diverse Female Space Jesus and they even pulled Stacey Abrams from whatever hole she was hiding in to guest star as the president of Uranus, er I mean the Federation, so I'd say Star Trek has amply filled its own quota of self-tarnishment.

Every show I watched as a kid was black and white. I bought my parents their first color TV in 1978 when I came home from the Navy.
As kids in the 70's, we used to go on holiday to a caravan park at the beach. The portable black and white 13" TV was powered by running a wire to the car's battery. When it was a James Bond film night, the treat was watching James Bond on the colour 13" TV in next doors caravan.
