Empty seats seen at World Cup game after controversy over ticket prices

Empty seats were rampant at the World Cup due to the high cost of ticket prices. Many of the empty seats appeared to be located in VIP sections near the pitch, according to the Athletic, which said there seemed to be thousands of unoccupied places throughout the stadium.

Ticket prices in the hospitality section were priced at around $5,000, while general admission tickets in the lower tier cost $500, the publication added.

"I really thought we had more drug cartel members and human traffickers than this in Mexico that could afford these prices", said one attending fan.

Due to the lower attendance World Cup officials suggested that common folk might be able to attend, provided they maybe promise to donate a kidney or perhaps offer one of their children to help pay for what they cannot afford." "I give you my wife, but not my kidney!!", screamed one man. However, once he disclosed a picture the World Cup officials lost all interest in the offer.

No word yet on whether the man has a daughter to offer instead.

I think that what FIFA failed to understand is that h th e American fan is more than happy to watch the matches on television. The views are better, the commentary provides additional information and you can see every one of the 104 games, live. So we’re not going to pay thousands of dollars for a lesser experience.

That stadium in Mexico really looks massive, but I was surprised that the largest stadium in Latin America only holds 87K. I noticed the lack of spectators on the news last night.

Much the same with a big concert. That is why unless the home team is killing it and exciting, you see a lot of people leave 30 minutes early to beat the rush. I always preferred to hang around for a while, kill some time, and give the crowd some time to clear out.
