For all the predictable speechifying about “diversity” that I heard at cocktail parties and literary events, I became struck by just how politically monolithic this scene really is. It’s not just that writers and editors have to be PC when it comes to their books and their public pronouncements: There also seems to be a crushing uniformity in regard to their privately held viewpoints.

There is nothing tolerant or “diverse” about the left. Absolutely nothing. They will not tolerate even the slightest deviation from their rigid and frightening doctrine. Case in point:

A pair of female students who said "Baby, It's Cold Outside" is "definitely" misogynistic and should be taken "off campus" sang a different tune when Phillips asked them if they would delete rap songs and tunes from other genres that demean women from their playlists.

I'm not going to get in to your entire thread thesis here, but just for this post I will say that their paired costumes aren't historically accurate *at all.* Pilgrims didn't wear all black or have buckle hats; the blacks who showed up in the Plymouth colony didn't arrive until years after the 1621 "First Thanksgiving" feast and were almost certainly servants rather than religious separatists; Mr. Witt appears to be wearing a Halloween costume, and I don't know what in the world that headdress is. Plains Indians wore war bonnets - the traditional gigantic flowing headdress of eagle feathers - which was to them like a combination king's crown and Pope's miter but has been entirely minimalized over the years; that thing on his head looks like pieces of novelty party feathers or possibly Fiberglas insulation strands, glued together around a headband. He's better off having it stolen.

Just so I'm not picking entirely on them, the student who said that the first Thanksgiving was to celebrate the slaughter of Native Americans was also wrong. The first forty-ish years of the Plymouth settlement was the Golden Age in European-Native American relations. Horrendous atrocities and creeping white settlement raged all around them, and gripped Plymouth once the leaders died, but while they were alive Gov. Bradford and Massasoit held together a model of how two societies that couldn't be more different could live together in peace. There, that's my Thanksgiving speech - the short version, anyway.

Getting back to the video, I can see why the (presumably) Native American students are upset, even vitriolic. They're marginalized minorities who have spent their lives hearing about everything from King Phillip to Pocahontas to the Trail of Tears to Wounded Knee to Alcatraz to Standing Rock and on and on and on, watching a white college student dressed up in a cheap replica of their traditional clothing. Regardless of intention (and pie!) they should have expected some pushback. I suspect that they did, which is why they a) went in the first place, b) brought a camera, and c) put the white guy in the buckskin.

Anyway, that's beside the point. My main rambling is that this isn't historical accuracy one bit.
