There will be a vote by Albertans on Alberta independence.
Everyone who has their ear to the ground agrees. They say you can bet the farm on it.
And just the fact there is an almost-certain vote on Alberta independence looming on the horizon will be a message heard across the country and right into the office of Prime Minister Mark Carney.
If a total of 177,000 Albertans, names gathered over 120 days, say they want Albertans to have their say on Alberta independence in a referendum vote.
Smith setting the magic number at 177,000 hasn’t even been passed by the legislature yet, the federal election just wrapped up this week and the Alberta Prosperity Project, as of Thursday afternoon, already has 126,000 people pledging to back a vote.
Reportedly, there are other lists of individuals also wanting a vote.
Sources say the total number pledging their support for an independence vote could hit 200,000 in the next few days and we’re not even at the official Day 1 of gathering signatures and the door-knocking campaign to score more support is still to come.

When in Calgary, he would not commit to an oil and gas pipeline or LNG projects. Bad.
Carney dismissed Smith’s demands, how Ottawa should nix all the Liberal laws and regulations hurting Alberta. Bad.
And the prime minister is surrounded by the very people responsible for screwing Alberta over the past 10 years. Real bad.
How confident is Smith she can get through to Carney?
“It depends on whether we have pragmatic, Bank of Canada governor Mark Carney as prime minister or whether we have environmental extremist, keep it in the ground, phase out fossil fuels, author of the book
Values Mark Carney as prime minister.”

The premier says views are split.
Lots of folks are sending texts and emails, asking her to give Carney a chance, to see if he will change course, to try to make Canada work.
Smith says others are fed up. Done with Canada.
At a meeting of UCP members of the legislature Friday the premier will hear what Albertans are telling them.
Smith will present Alberta’s case to Carney. She wants to reset the relationship with the federal government.
“I’ll gauge the result based on his actions.”
And we will see if Carney knows he is playing with fire.
Commentary:
Hmm...., Alberta and talks of independence/secession from Canada?
Alberta has a population of 4.2 Million. That makes it 28th largest state by population, just above Oklahoma and below Oregon.
This can happen now. It is happening.
And now is the time it can be made the 51st state.
Window of opportunity, history in the making.
The Provence of Alberta needs to begin the process of protecting itself from the rest of Canada.
If Alberta leaves the Canadian Commonwealths, British Columbia will also leave by plebiscite.
Saskatchewan will also follow, the Eastern areas of Canada may remain as the Commonwealth.
PM Carney has his back against the wall...
It's a process. I expect Danielle Smith will use the vote to justify closer relations with Washington and start pulling programs away from Ottawa and the tax dollars with it.
Alberta is a significant contributor to Canada’s economy. In 2018, Alberta’s energy sector alone contributed over $71.5 billion to Canada’s nominal gross domestic product. It is also a leading producer of oil and natural gas.
Saskatchewan remains the breadbasket of Canada.
In the end, Trump is not wrong in offering the people of Canada unity with the U.S.A.
