When law enforcement first setup these data dragnets it was because they needed to get information on an abducted child. I cannot locate that specific case, but it was before the contraversy surrounding their use of "stingray" devices to track subjects in real time.

I have no idea which way SCOTUS appears to be leaning.

Huh, our freedoms have been so eroded I just took it for granted that they did that type of stuff as a matter of course.
I think this is the challenge of geo-fencing. It was geo-fencing that located and arrested people who were just walking around on January 6th.

When you carry a cell phone, that phone is emitting signals that anyone can read.

Don’t like it, turn off your phone when you are committing a crime

Are you talking about the cell tower pings or sniffing data sent wirelessly?

Turning off your phone doesn't prevent it from pinging the towers as it moves from one to another.

If you don't want your phone telling on you while you're out committing crimes then it's best to just leave it at home.

SCOTUS will approve. SCOTUS has not blocked expansions of police power since prior to 9/11.

The authorities already know my location because I'm the one who just called them and turned in those illegal aliens.

Reminds me of a story from about ten years ago
A group of HS seniors decided to vandalize the school as a senior prank. So they spray painted genitalia, swastikas and KKK on the outside of the school.
They knew the school had cameras so they wore hoodies and masks……the perfect crime.

When they got off the bus Monday morning, they were all arrested.

Seems they all carried their phones and their phones automatically logged in to the schools WiFi at 2 AM
