Facebook Upholds Trump Ban

Facebook wants to ban America too
No, just political conservative speech, which is why alternative's should exist freely, and without control by monopolies who corner the market place for themselves. These platforms being monopolies that require people to beg them to let them stay on is a bunch of bullcrap from hell.

It's time to split the nation, and private platforms should freely exist (membership only), as long as federal laws aren't being violated. Allowing platforms to do what Facebook and other's are doing should have American's yelling to the rooftop's, and they are, but the money is over-riding everything the nation trusted in and once believed in.

They announced it this morning. trump can't go back to Facebook.

They have the right to decide who can be on their site. trump violated the rules over and over again. He made very bad choices so he should take personal responsibility, bad consequences comes with bad choices. He should have been taught that as a child.

Good, this will hurt Facebook. Im surprised they were dumb enough to do it, but you lefties are as dumb as they get.
Facebook and Twitter are both UP; the ban has been in place 4 months and doesn't seem to have hurt them yet. The world does not revolve around T****.
I guess you haven't been paying attention if you think Facebook and Twitter haven't paid a heavy price for their Nazi tactics. Folks like yourself may go along with fascism by Big Tech....but most freedom loving Americans can see very clearly that they are in collusion with the Deep State in trying to shape our elections and need to be punished for it.

Okay, but Jan 4, FB stock closed at $270. Yesterday it closed at $318.

I'm not sure where I see the beating here.
What do you suppose their stock price will be when a GOP ruled congress brings down the hammer?

Breaking News! An advisory board says the decision is fine- but wants to wait 6 months before making it official just to be sure the wind hasn't changed direction.
If I were FB, I'd decide today. Nothing has changed. But I guess we'll see. Banning such a high ranking politico forever is a pretty weighty decision.

The review board doesn't make the decision, btw.

But the average facebook user is thick and easily convinced. Hence a kook or liar like trump can do well.
LOL I'm reminded of a student of mine who had gotten some completely screwed up information on FB --it was some local news and it had nothing to do with opinion; it was just flat out wrong. It was impossible for me to straighten him out. He had read it on FB and they know better than the newspaper, goddammit.

The problem that a lot of these organisations have is that their rules were generally written prior to the age of Trump. They did not anticipate that such a liar could gain any traction at all.
Its not the only gap. Flat earth, anti vax conspiracy theorists have always been laughed at and largely ignored.
But the average facebook user is thick and easily convinced. Hence a kook or liar like trump can do well.
Its a bigger problem than donny or brexit. Education is probably the only long term solution
The average facebook user is thick and easily convinced eh ??? Wow, so you just threw facebook users with your generalization of them under the bus because you hate Trump so bad... Rotflmbo.

The independent Advisory Board has determined that Facebook's decision to ban Donald Trump permanently was legit. However, it asked for more transparency and clearer rules, and said FB should not "indefinitely" suspend members without an established length of time.

Now they've got their specifics. The ban is forever.

The Advisory Board is definitely not a rubber stamp, either. It suggested some changes many of us felt were in order for a long time:

The initial round of decisions — which touched on alleged hate speech, coronavirus misinformation and references to dangerous organizations — signaled that the board would demand greater clarity from Facebook about its policies, as well as transparency. Before Wednesday’s decision, the board had overturned Facebook’s decisions six times, upheld them twice, and was unable to complete a ruling once.

You're right.
facebook "rules" LOL
Could have picked a better word. Rules are to be followed. They are fffffffffffffaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr from consistent.
It's the same problem on all social media platforms. A lot of the rules are general, for the most part, and open to individual interpretation. Having a review board that holds their feet to the fire is a good thing.
Its a joke OL. Social media goes crazy over trump but are OK with terrorists, extremists etc having accounts.
The man that has killed more people in terror attacks in the last 10 years posts with immunity. Even speaks of genocide. No one bats a eye.
And you want to let people keep flapping their gums over bullshit lies until the same thing happens here? Fascism isn't okay in my book. TN.
fascism is restricting speech you dont agree with,, now tell me whos doing that??

Yes. The unanticipated nightmare was pretty hard to imagine in this country. But I guess fascists don't usually give a lot of warning. For a long time, I think the people who still had a grasp on reality were caught with their mouths hanging open in total disbelief.

Of course the review board doesn't make the decision. They are simply a helpful echo chamber. FB will make the decision when it is most politically expedient.

Are you under the impression that the GOP wont light them on fire the very next time they own congress? You are a fool if you think Social media doesnt have a reckoning coming at some point in the near future.
It should. But it shouldn't come from either political party. You see what happens when political minds try to control it?
Politicals minds DO control it, hard core left wing minds in fact, for now.
Show me where the Dems in Congress had anything to do with the decision.

When trump signed up on Facebook and twitter he signed a contract with those companies. He clicked in agreement with their TOS rules. Which also included the fact that the company can ban him for violating those TOS rules.

When trump clicked that agreement, he signed the contract and agreed that Facebook and twitter can kick him off the site for violating those TOS rules.

He violated that contract.

Can you understand that?

He agreed with Facebook that yes, they can kick him off if he violates that contract. So that's exactly what Facebook did.

When you make bad choices, the only result is bad consequences.

It's called personal responsibility for your actions and words.

Stop crying and bitching about it. No one gives a rat's ass what you or trump wants.

Deal with it.

I thought Individual One was going to start his own social media platform.
Parler

Bannon, with the Mercer billionaire family are now the big funders of it....

Mercers were head deep in 2016 trump shenanigans.... Cambridge Analytica was funded by them, with Bannon etc....

I guess Facebook perma-banned Lebron James for inciting violence against cops.

Oops, they didn't? Nobody trusts or believes these hypocritical clowns. It's all complete bullshit.
James took that post down and apologized for it. That's all T**** had to do. But he wasn't about to shut his fat yap about having the election stolen. He'd been warned over and over. It was his choice.

Its not just social media platforms either. They are just businesses looking to make money.
In the UK we have our very own mini trump in johnson. He is corrupt and dishonest just like trump. It turns out that our way of governing did not anticipate such a massive liar like this. Our processes are not strong enough to control his antics because they rely on a degree of honesty that he doesnt possess.

I never thought we would see the day that this happens.

Yes, he did take the post down. He never said he was wrong, but instead he blamed others for not understanding him. The point being James clearly incited violence and engaged in hate speech. There was no consequence from social media. Hypocritical clowns with zero credibility.
