As far as is known, there is only one report for coronaviruses in seabird ticks, though that is where the investigation leads: seabird tick, Ixodes uriae.

Actually it appears that it's Ixodes tanuki that attacks masked palm civets rather than I. ovatus. In turn, the civets groom and eat the ticks. They would thus be eating their own blood, which is infected with SARS-CoV.

So, no matter what tick attacks Chinese masked palm civets and Chinese raccoon dogs, these ticks ingest SARS-CoV virus and can be considered intermediate hosts of SARS-CoV. How long do these viruses survive in these ticks and do these viruses mutate in the ticks?
