It is now morally permissible for the state to place punishments on individuals for private speech, where now "protesting" and harassing the family of the individual engaged in violating the speech codes at their home is acceptable at least and encouraged at worst.

Not only is the State enacting speech codes, especially for words in private among voluntarily associating adults, entirely tyrannical and therefore immoral, it is illegal under the First Amendment, as the case law I cited shows.

The very definition of free speech is to be immune from state sanction, to be free of the consequences of State action against you.

As I posted earlier on this thread, the University president is probably more concerned about looking weak on racism than he is concerned about the expulsions withstanding a court challenge. If the expulsions are challenged and overturned, he can blame the courts and save face in front of his acedemic peers.
