EXCELLENT! Department of Education may be axed!

Yeah, I thought so.
Funny how you avoid addressing the points I made. Face it, little simpleton.

Before the Dept of Education reared it's head the students of the USA consistently rated in the top 5 world wide.

Since that Dept began controlling things our students have dropped into the bottom third.

Tell the class why.

Never. But I see the results. If you would like to be shocked about how far public education has devolved, go get a high school chemistry textbook from the Los Angeles Unified School District circa 1927.

Then compare it to a modern COLLEGE textbook.

The 1927 high school book is orders of magnitude superior to the college textbook. In fact, my daughter is using mine as we write.
She is using a textbook with the incorrect periodic table? How does that help her?

How old is your daughter? At your age, I am estimating 60?

You have repeatedly been told there is no causation that your statement alleges. Are you incapable of learning at your advanced age?

In my state the schools have failed

that is not a dig towards teachers, nor the teaching profession

the system is broken, and they can't do their job due to that fact

I didn't know we had Carter to thank for D of E

but it totally figures

Everything the dims touch turns to----------
Yup. Payola to the teacher's unions for their 1976 endorsement. Reagan's SecEd, Bill Bennett tried to expose and effect change to the education establishment, but we all know how well that played out.

Do people need to be reminded yet again that education is organized, directed, and almost entirely funded at the state level RIGHT NOW?
Aaaaaand any Fed dollars always comes with "do things our way or else" strings attached. I see it all the time in public transit, I'm not surprised you fail to see it in "education".

It doesn't.
I found this: The federal government plays a supporting role to local and state education authorities. It funds about 8% of all education outlays, attempting to stop up gaps in local and state budgets. Federal politicians can also mandate standards for schools to follow.

Actually, the periodic table is quite accurate for the majority of the elements. Amazingly enough there hasn't been a great deal of advances in that realm. The book gives far more information on HOW to use the periodic table. I also gave her my CRC, so she is very well served.

Umm. Do you have a link to prove me wrong Unkotare?

Correlation certainly doesn't equal causation. So explain why the students are doing so poorly.

Be specific.

Except they don't. The law establishes the rules and procedures like Title I, Title IX and the IDEA.

Sure in hell does. Want me to list off the dictates from the Feds as to what we in Transit have to to to get their money? Same thing applies with education. Get rid of the DoE and you get full 100% autonomy back to to the locals where it belongs.
Apples and oranges, and actually more like apples and watermelons.

Federal funds are based on a per student basis, whether they are poor students receiving funding for reading programs or special education students or female sports equity programs. There same funds can be doled out by another federal department like HHS just as easily. There are no so-called strings attached.

Then 'splain this! Why the fuck are we doling out tens of thousands of our hard earned PER STUDENT PER YEAR and getting piss poor results? Seems to me if parents can get their money back via vouchers and send their kids to a school of their choice, or even gasp! homeschool, it would force district schools to up their game if they had to compete with private, charter, parochial and homeschooling.
