CDZ Every voice of division is the enemy.

Perhaps it's all the "divisions" that make the us the greatest nation. If everyone were either all right, or all left this nation isn't nearly as great as it is.

"Hypenated" and "American" could be put together in every instance. That is potentially one of the great things about our culture.
Not when the hyphenated half is not American.
People are still looking for ways to maintain division.
Looking for oneness and unity will bring America together. Division will bring victory to our enemies.

It is truly enough to make anyone who tries to deal with things reasonably just give up. On all sides of every debate are shrill voices that only seek to dominate and control. The wrong issues are being argued over and over with repetitive catch phrases and clichés. Originality and creativity are unwelcome. Nouns have lost their meanings, or had them distorted to the point of being unrecognizable. We see genuine totalitarians tearing into one another for being totalitarian. Is it 'absurd'? Is it 'laughable'? It is difficult to be objective enough to employ any term but 'exasperating'.
It really does appear that about 40% of the population is held hostage by 30% idiots on one side and 30% idiots on the other. The majority is crazy, but opposing crazies. They don't see anyone else as having anything to contribute and they themselves only seek to tear down the others, including those not in either camp.
America cannot continue this way.

to repeat:
Every time you see or hear any encouragement to continue division in America, you see or hear our common enemy. America has everything needed to be safe, happy and free. Anything that works against that is attacking us all. Humanity has always been full of errors. Yet, we have clawed up from simple survival to tall towers of knowledge, wisdom, compassion and enlightenment. The ominous shadows of our limited past still cause fear, but we are almost to the point where we can all be free of it. Every binary, divisive urge is one that would hold us back, or, worse, seeks to plunge us back into the past. If you want to destroy our Republic, continue with a divided mindset.

So opposing domestic terrorism is divisive and wrong?

How you would come to pose this question is difficult to understand. Isn't "domestic terrorism" divisive?

Domestic terrorists believe their actions are not divisive.

Some people claim to believe the earth is flat.

I used to think that pretty much anyone could change their behaviors and mindsets, and decide to work towards healing and progress. I no longer feel that way.

Those on the ends of the spectrum who are going to remain tribal won't be part of any constructive conversation that leads to progress and improvement. Society will need to find a way to simply marginalize them out of that particular conversation. That's the hard part, because they are by far the loudest. But we have to keep trying.
That is nearly impossible since the most powerful force for shaping opinion is completely biased presenting one extreme view. We have lost our "Free Press" and that fact more than any other is why the country is so divided.

When abuses become too ingrained in a society, there is a need for people to question the social order, so that it may be reformed. Consider the actions of reformers like John Brown, Martin Luther, or Yeshua of Nazareth, who made their respective established orders boil with wrath.

"Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division. From now on there will be five in one family divided against each other, three against two and two against three. They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law."
-- Yeshua of Nazareth; as quoted in the Gospel of Luke 12:51-53

All the in order to form a "more perfect union", a better family of man.

To be divided is to be conquered. America had better get it together that being together is the only way forward.

You are willing to declare parts of the country "our common enemy". In so doing, you are creating the deepest division imaginable. According to your own line of logic, you are the enemy. That line of logic currently serves to create the kinds of "illiberal democracies" in Brazil, Hungary, and Poland, and it appears to have arrived in the U.S. of A. as well.

Unity, if desirable at all, has to have a foundation in the form of Constitutional guarantees of inclusiveness, centered on equality. That's the only way to forge one entity out of a staggeringly, admirably diverse population with points of view, aims and aspirations representing black and white and every shade of gray and color in between. By necessity there are going to be divisions, as there are in anything humankind creates. These turn toxic and deleterious insofar as one part declares itself the righteous and dominant one, and the other part(s) the enemy.

Hear! Hear! Well said!

It could be said that we are living in the most peaceful and prosperous time in all of human history. I understand the calls for 'unity' but I believe what most really mean is peace. Yet by our very nature we are not a peaceful species...it is a condition of our humanity. To mitigate our naturally tribal natures and darker tendencies we need, as you've so aptly penned, a 'Constitutional guarantee of inclusiveness' centered on 'equal justice' under the law.

Ideally our unity should be of purpose, principle, with vigorous debate and ideas on how that may be accomplished. Your final sentence is spot on and I cannot improve upon it!

In the future, after the deranged Dimms confiscate your guns and then your private property, keep an eye out for the sign that says, "Work Will Set You Free".

Whatever you may be imagining, there is no correlation between the quoted post and declaring parts of the country "enemy".
We are in a period of facile, petty differences and divisions that only serve our enemies. That is what this thread denounces. It is as if you are addressing another person and post.

So everyone must think the same way and should not question or they are divisive? I realize the need to progress however dissenting voices are what made this country.

At this moment, for this time, we need to pull together. All this bitter discord over trivialities is what is protested in this thread.
