Europe’s Energy Crisis Is Coming for the Rest of the World, Too

This is what happens when the wind doesn't blow, there isn't enough sunshine, and nuclear plants are being phased out.

Combined with very weak leadership in America.

This winter, the world will be fighting over something that’s invisible, yet rarely so vital—and in alarmingly shorter supply.

Nations are more reliant than ever on natural gas to heat homes and power industries amid efforts to quit coal and increase the use of cleaner energy sources. But there isn’t enough gas to fuel the post-pandemic recovery and refill depleted stocks before the cold months. Countries are trying to outbid one another for supplies as exporters such as Russia move to keep more natural gas home. The crunch will get a lot worse when temperatures drop.

The crisis in Europe presages trouble for the rest of the planet as the continent’s energy shortage has governments warning of blackouts and factories being forced to shut.

Inventories at European storage facilities are at historically low levels for this time of year. Pipeline flows from Russia and Norway have been limited. That’s worrying as calmer weather has reduced output from wind turbines while Europe’s aging nuclear plants are being phased out or are more prone to outages—making gas even more necessary. No wonder European gas prices surged by almost 500% in the past year and are trading near record.

The spike has forced some fertilizer producers in Europe to reduce output, with more expected to follow, threatening to increase costs for farmers and potentially adding to global food inflation. In the U.K., high energy prices have forced several suppliers out of business.

Even a normally cold winter in the Northern Hemisphere is expected to drive up natural gas prices further across much of the world. In China, industrial users including makers of ceramics, glass, and cement may respond by raising prices; households in Brazil will face expensive power bills. Economies that can’t afford the fuel—such as Pakistan or Bangladesh—could simply grind to a halt.

Its all so predictable and senseless

The world is awash in energy

We have abundant clean coal, natural gas, and nuclear energy

But freaked out lib greenies would rather sit in the dark and shiver to calm their hysteria over global warming

Keep using the fossils
In another 50 years : it won’t matter - as the world will be using fusion reactors

Smashing H atoms is the power of the sun and truly is E=MC

Its counter intuitive for liberals to reject nuclear power given their global warming phobia

Germany’s N-TV also reports a dire picture, writing “Europe’s gas storage facilities are largely empty, and supplies are not flowing as they should.

Already surging energy prices are forcing the first companies to close factories in Europe, and German companies like BASF and copper producer Aurubis are complaining about extremely high prices for energy sources.

U.S. investment bank Goldman Sachs is warning of “almost empty gas storage facilities” and that “Europe faces an acute energy crisis.” Utilities across Europe have already announced massive price hikes.

Another problem, according to N-TV: Companies are struggling to get supplies of raw materials and semi-finished goods. “Inflation in Germany has already climbed to its highest level in almost 30 years.” Prices for raw plastic, for example have skyrocketed since late last year.

Tripled prices

The price of gas in Amsterdam has already more than tripled since the beginning of the year. The reason, according to N-TV, are interrupted supplies from Russia, and production from Europe’s North Sea gas fields “has also been curtailed”! Also “CO2 tax and oil price drive up fuel prices,” reports N-TV.

Phaseout of coal, nuclear worsening the problem

Adding to the European energy supply woes: “Europe has recently experienced an unusual wind lull”, which has forced Germany to ramp up its coal (lignite) fired power generation, which, according to N-TV, “is in the process of being phased out.” The price of burning coal is also more expensive, thanks to the now higher price of CO2 emission certificates.

Clean coal? :laughing0301:
They`re still treating the orange water flowing from coal mines that were mined out in the 50s.

Progs will use natural advances we see now as part of their proof of the green energy. A/C unit compressors outside the home/apts. are going to be less fleurocarbon dependent with newer units. It has nothing to do with their utopian dreams. But the Progs will take credit for it. They will use better insulation, longer lasting shingles, better windows in homes and the such as proof of the trillions we spend to improve efficiencies.

Natural gas is cheaper, cleaner and plentiful. No scrubbers required.
You forget that greenies hate NG too because its still not as clean as a solar panel or a windmill

They are pretty radically anti fossil fuel in all forms

So biden does what he can to limit production in the US

I think we need to ban NG exports to insure that America has enough for ourselves

Your totally full of shit. I live in fracking country (8 pads within 10 miles) and no one is protesting fracking. Solar and wind is preferable but we`re a long way from 100% renewables. Greenies know that because they actually read up on these issues. Hate NG? No.

There is no legal case against fracking or liberals would quickly put a stop to it

And take your comment about shit and eat it

Gas on the European stock exchanges fell by $40 immediately after the news about the filling of the first line of the Nord Stream-2.
Stop this exclusively political project! Do not interfere with the free market! Let it shape gas prices in Europe!
