'Essence of authoritarianism': Expert warns 'Project 2025' would create a Trump 'autocracy'

I'm okay with that given the danger a Trump presidency represents.

You're ok not knowing who is making the decisions?
I'm OK knowing Biden is making the decisions in conjunction with his advisers. I understand why you become apoplectic over his verbal gaffes while ignoring all of Trump's. I think it makes you feel better about voting for a rapist if you can convince yourself his opponent isn't capable of doing the job.

You think pudding brain Joe is making any decisions? That's funny.

The Heritage Foundation — a well-funded, influential far-right group in Washington, DC — has been quietly vetting tens of thousands of arch-conservative acolytes to staff up the federal government under the next Republican administration as part of its "Project 2025" presidential transition plan. One scholar of authoritarian movements around the globe is sounding the alarm over what that would mean should former President Donald Trump win a second term in the White House.

During a Saturday segment on MSNBC, New York University professor Ruth Ben-Ghiat told host Ali Velshi that Project 2025 would effectively transform American government from a meritocratic democracy to a regime resembling Vladimir Putin's Russia. She pointed to Heritage's calls to eliminate numerous government agencies that serve as checks on the executive branch as merely one example.

"The essence of authoritarianism is removing restraints on the leader and making him immune from prosecution by domesticating government," Ben-Ghiat said. "And so some of what Project 2025 proposes, like abolishing the DOJ and the FBI is designed for that end, to make it impossible to prosecute Trump and allow him to commit crimes with impunity."

Sounds ominous to me! What do you think?
I think I’d vote for that.

Speculating about what Dems would do gives you the luxury of making assumptions. We know what Repubs did. They deceitfully stole two picks from Dem prez's because they had the power to do so.

You don’t have to speculate to know. It’s why scotus picks are so contentious and desired. It’s why their political leanings are at the forefront of their nomination.

We also know because the left keeps telling us, you want to stack the court so you can codify abortion into law.

You want a scotus majority because you want things done to benefit the democrat agenda, and if given a chance, you’ll do it.

These are not assumptions, these are things we know because you all have been saying it for years.

Including a company that supports trump
They don't give to you.
They sell it to you.
If there were only one book libs could burn it would be the Bible
Big deal.
I would burn the Koran too.
Gullible religious nut jobs, think bibles are the word of GOD, because "Someone told them it was"?

Somehow, every now and then, the word of GOD changes?
Usually to fit the writers narrative.

You understand that a Republican senate has no obligation to help a Democrat President
get his nominee onto the Supreme Court, right?
Everyone knows now.
Teabaggers will delay, delay and delay.
To get their lying, corrupt nominee in power.
Whatever one thinks of McConnell’s action in 2016 to deny any consideration to President Obama’s nominee, Merrick Garland — and we think it was clearly wrong — an action now to proceed with a Republican nominee for a vacancy arising less than two months before the election would flatly violate the principle McConnell announced then to justify the action he took.

The principle was that the Republicans held the Senate. If the American people elected the corrupt old sot, that was their way of saying a Democrat should fill that vacancy. If the corrupt old sot lost, that was their way of saying a Republican should fill the vacancy.

With a Republican Senate and Republican President in 2020, the American people already had their say.
You're FOS, as usual.

I would burn the Koran too.
You might burn it last, after all the Christians are dead or gone

Because then muslims would no longer be of use to the Godless left

But without Christians to maintain order the muslims might throw you into the fire
