I've heard some desperate arguments in my day but this one may very well be the most desperate of them all. To call the massive polar ice cap "nothing" is as extraordinarily stupid as saying that 60% of Bill Gates $79 billion is "nothing" because $79 billion is "nothing to begin with".

Do you want the actual numbers that that 60% represented? Over 900,000 square miles. To put that in perspective, Alaska - which if placed inside of the continental United States would cover half of the entire nation by itself - is over 600,000 square miles. So the expansion was the equivalent of 150% of Alaska.

grievances on both sides of these conflicts instead of trumpeting one and silencing the other.

There are ways to frame and include all approaches and issues
to SOLVE common problems and avoid division over differences.
