You want voting rights, then have voting rights. Have Proportional Representation.

FPTP has no voting rights. Most people get ignored by the system.

The filibuster serves a purpose but is too easy. Mitch filibustered himself once. :auiqs.jpg: I'd like to see it changed, maybe having a fixed number of times a party could use it per year. That way they'd have to choose what was important and what was not.

I heard two good recommendations. One is they really have to stand there and speak, and the party filibustering needs to make sure they have the votes sitting there listening the entire time.

It is all bullshit and very bad for this country. It equates to mob rule.

It's not like the filibuster is in the constitution. It's an arcane Senate rule that nobody anywhere emulates. It actually stifles debate and democracy. I say get rid of it but at the very least go back to a real you gotta be there peeing in a jug filibuster.

What is to prevent a simple majority from completely overturning what ever the prior majority did every few years or ramming through unpopular legislation. If the filibuster is painful and hard, it won’t be abused and can once again be a tool to promote negotiating instead of obstruction just to obstruct.

with the filibuster, the Senate is the graveyard of civil rights

without the filibuster, the Senate is the graveyard of racism

Interesting how people only want to end the filibuster when their party is in the majority. The last time the Democrats pulled a similar type stunt it was in 2013 didn't work out well for them as they lost the Senate the next year and the Presidency in 2016.
