I'd like to think the voters of WI did not elect Schimel solely because his positions on so many issues are wrong. But it's hard to believe animus towards the oligarch known as Elon didn't play a role. People tend to react badly when overtly corrupt acts like a billionaire trying to buy an election occur (though not always).

Especially one potentially having business before the very SC he is trying to buy.
